WIS will be an all-through school for five to 18-year-olds; it is currently open for Grades 1-5 and will roll out the Grades 6-12 by 2025.
It's still very early days for this school but its motto – Dream, Strive, Succeed – certainly feels inspiring and motivational.
WIS is part of the UK-based International Schools Partnership (ISP), a network of 52 schools in 15 countries around the world; it also owns Hanoi Toronto School (HTS). WIS can benefit from the support of a strong investor and management team at ISP, which has aided the growth of schools such as The Aquila School in Dubai, for example. Another benefit of ISP ownership is that WIS can offer students opportunities such as an international buddy exchange programme, and global chess competitions and maths challenges.
The Founding Principal is Dr Roderick Crouch, an Australian educator whose previous positions include principal for international schools in the UAE (Victoria International school of Sharjah) and Vietnam (Australian International School).
The school currently offers an inquiry-based and project-based education with a strong global outlook that follows the principles of the IB programme. WIS is pursuing authorisation as an IB World School and is a Candidate School for the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP); it plans to be an IB continuum school offering the PYP followed by the Middle Years Programme (MYP)from 2023 and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) from 2025.
If accredited, WIS will be the eighth international school in Vietnam to offer all three IB programmes. Although each IB programme has a standalone framework and curriculum, students with an MYP and PYP background can find it easier to meet the varied demands of the DP. For example, the experience of the MYP can equip students with the research skills need for the DP’s Extended Essay.
Not every student at WIS will study the IBDP. When the senior school opens in 2025, students can choose one of two pathways to university – an international programme that combines US Common Core standards and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, or an integrated bilingual program that combines Vietnam’s MOET standards with a modified international programme.
Teachers with both Vietnamese and international teaching experience have been recruited to deliver the two different programmes and meet the needs of both expat and local Vietnamese students.
The school has an impressive campus in the West Lake area of Hanoi, spread over 2.5 hectares of open, green space. Facilities include spacious classrooms, theatre, sound and visual digital literacy studios, science and technology (STEM) classrooms, and state-of-the-art dance and drama studios as well as indoor and outdoor sports facilities.
Annual fees are VND 470,100,000 for Grades 1-5.
