A state of the art campus is currently under construction at a 35,000 sqm site in The Manor Central Park, a new development in central Hanoi.
Founded in 1872 in New York, Dwight is a leading international IB World School with global campuses in London, Dubai, Seoul, Shanghai, as well as Dwight’s Global Online campus. Dwight School Hanoi will apply to offer the continuum of IB programs – the Primary Years Program , the Middle Years Program, and the IB Diploma. It will be only the seventh international school in Vietnam to offer all three IB programmes.
As a member of the Dwight global family of schools, students at Dwight School Hanoi will make full use of its unique global connections including semester abroad opportunities to Dwight New York and London, the annual Dwight Music Festival and annual Dwight Global Leaders Program that brings together students from all campuses, and other cross-campus collaborations and educational travel. Students at Dwight School Hanoi will also be eligible for transfers to global campuses.
Each Dwight School shares the same commitment to 'igniting the spark of genius' in every child. Dwight School Hanoi will invest in significant support, counselling and advisory resources as well as professional development and training for all faculty and staff. The school’s small class sizes will also deliver a higher degree of personalised learning.
The Vision of the Dwight schools is to foster the next generation of global leaders who can thrive anywhere in the world.
'The schools’ goal is 'to nurture that potential to help our students learn, grow and make the world a better place. This done through a commitment to three pillars: personalized learning, global vision and community. The three pillars provide students with the tools they need to ignite this spark, turning passion into purpose.'
Chancellor of The Dwight Schools, Stephen Spahn, said:
“As a member of The Dwight Schools global network, students in Hanoi will enjoy numerous cross-campus curricular and creative collaborations with their peers around the world, have the opportunity to spend a trimester or year on any Dwight campus, and the ability to transfer seamlessly to any Dwight School should their family relocate,”
Mr. Vu Quang Hoi, Chairman of the Bitexco Group, which is developing The Manor Central Park, and investing partner in Dwight School Hanoi, said:
“I want to bring to Vietnam a school that offers pre-school to high school with the most advanced facilities and best programmes. I also want this school to be the cradle of outstanding leaders, scientists, and managers who will become the future of the country and bring Vietnam further on to the world map.”
Dwight School in New York has been owned and operated by the Spahn family for multiple generations. Alumni of Dwight schools internationally includes U.S. Senator, Governor, and White House advisors, as well as the influential New York Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia and the British diplomat Sir Leonard Allinson. Noteworthy creative forces Truman Capote (author), Roy Lichtenstein (artist), and John Williams (Grammy Award-winning classical guitarist) contributed to the legacy of the arts at The Dwight Schools.
Dwight School Hanoi will eventually teach all three IB programmes.
Although each programme has a standalone framework and curriculum, this school does give students the chance to access a seamless education from four through to 18 years. This means that Dwight students can reap the benefits of an all-through school: a stable environment for children, no transition from primary to secondary to sixth form; primary students have access to young role models; and secondary students have the responsibility of mentoring younger students.
Core subjects in the PYP are mathematics, English, science, social studies, art, drama, music, PSPE (personal, social, physical education), innovation, Forest School, and languages (French and Spanish); there are specialist teachers in foreign languages, sport, and music in the lower school.
The MYP curriculum covers a broad spectrum: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition (options include English, Japanese, Spanish, Mandarin and French), Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, Physical and Health Education, Design, Art, Drama and Music. The MYP is taught by specialist staff in all subjects. Students in Years 7 – 11 are encouraged to engage in meaningful community service, participate in physical activities, and explore their creativity. Dwight School London believes that these are important components of an IB education and personal development.
The MYP culminates with the submission of a Personal Project in Year 11, an independent, eight-month long assignment that showcases the skills that students have developed throughout the five years of their MYP studies.
The IBDP continues a broad and balanced learning approach to subjects: students need to successfully complete six subjects (three at higher level and three at standard level). In keeping with the school’s mission and the IB programme, there is a CAS (Creativity, Action, and Service) requirement for all students in Years 12 and 13, as well as Theory Of Knowledge and the Extended Essay.
The curriculum will include Vietnamese Language Arts for Vietnamese students.
Students who may find the IB Diploma Programme too demanding can opt to study for the Dwight High School Diploma, earning IB course certificates rather than the full IB diploma. The school also offers offer a Foundation Year to overseas students whose command of the English language is not sufficient to enable them to start the full IB Diploma course immediately.
Students will have full use of a large state-of-the-art campus in The Manor Central Park, as part of a new residential development and destination in central Hanoi.
The campus is designed by the architect Carlos Zapata to promote inspiration, collaboration, and innovation for both students and faculty. It features open architecture and facilities including collaborative spaces such as: the Spark of Genius Hall, the Tech and Design Center, makerspaces for all grades, a black box theatre, 800-seat performing arts centre, 2,000 m² of library space, a ceramics studio, a music conservatory and music technology rooms, two large indoor multisports halls, an advanced aquatics centre and outdoor play spaces, areas for nature exploration, fields and courts, and an organic greenhouse.
