Brighton College UK will open its first Vietnam campus, an all-through school in Hanoi, in August 2023.

Vingroup and Brighton College have signed an agreement to open the first Brighton College Vietnam international school in 2023. This British public-school export, which we have seen thrive in locations across the UAE and other parts of South East Asia, will retain major elements of Brighton College UK’s DNA to offer a progressive and well-rounded British education.

Located in Vinhomes Ocean Park, Gia Lam District, Hanoi, the school will open for Years 1 to 10 in August 2023, Years 11-13 will open in subsequent years. There are plans to open a further six Brighton College campuses across Vietnam in the future.

A leading independent private school in the UK, Brighton College is a school that focuses on the whole student. As well as being academically strong, it has a high level of pastoral care, a strong commitment to co-curricular activities, and the expectation that students will contribute more to the school community, whether in the arts or other areas.

We would expect the ethos and practices of the UK school to be brought into the day to day running of the Vietnam campus as far as possible. And we would hope that its holistic focus – particularly in sport and the creative arts – will be a focus here too.

Under the agreement, Brighton College (pictured above) will ensure that the school curriculum is aligned with the UK school's standards while still meeting national requirements. Vingroup – which is Vietnam's largest conglomerate and focuses on technology, industry, real estate, retail  and services – is responsible for investing in infrastructure, enrolment, and providing administrative support.

The Vietnam campus will be the latest addition to a growing family of international Brighton College schools including Brighton College Singapore and Brighton College Bangkok. We’ve seen the Brighton College model work well internationally. Brighton College Abu Dhabi is a WhichSchoolAdvisor.com Top School, and it has been rated Very Good by the Abu Dhabi Education Council; its sister school in Al Ain is rated Outstanding.

Curriculum

Teaching at Brighton College Vietnam will follow the National Curriculum for England. Throughout Pre-prep and Prep (Year 1-6), music, Mandarin, French, art, PE, games and swimming will be taught by specialist teachers. The curriculum also covers the core subjects of maths, English, and science, as well as geography, computing, history.

From Year 4, students also study drama, design & technology, and home economics. The school will also introduce entrepreneurship to the curriculum, which has been a popular addition at the UK campus; students create an original product which they market before industry experts in a Shark Tank-style competition.

Class sizes will be capped at 24 students.

It promises to be a well-rounded curriculum that prepares students for GCSEs in Years 10-11; options will include business studies, computer science, geography, history, world languages (Mandarin, French), art, music, design and technology (DT), drama, and PE.

In the Sixth Form, (Years 12 and 13) Brighton College Vietnam moves to an international pathway – the IB Diploma Programme – rather than A Levels.

Brighton College’s academic credentials are impressive. Its GCSE and A Level results are consistently high; and it was ranked as the Top Co-educational School in England in 2019 and named Independent School of the Year by The Sunday Times.

While these results are impressive, the Vietnam branch of Brighton College can only be measured by its own successes. The school is not the same, the teachers are not the same, and the environment is wholly different. However, statistically, Brighton College can provide as much of a guarantee of good results as you are going to get from a new school.

Campus and facilities

The campus, which is still under construction, will include modern facilities for both academic lessons and extra curricular activities. These include libraries, dining halls, modern indoor and outdoor sports facilities, performing arts and music studios, design and technology workshops, science labs, private cinema and 500-seat theatre.

Admission and fees

To apply for a place, all students sit an assessment in English, maths and reasoning, and attend an interview.

Annual fees have not yet been published.
