Children can start their learning journey with the Australian International School at this well-equipped kindergarten at the heart of District 2 in Ho Chi Minh.

Built and designed for young learners, Australian International School (AIS) Xi Kindergarten is a small and friendly learning hub for children aged two years upwards. With its large proportion of Australian teachers, this kindergarten offers a creative curriculum that’s based on the International Baccalaureate programme.

Founded in 2006 as a small secondary school, AIS has expanded to a family of three campuses across District 2 in Ho Chi Minh. As well as the Xi Kindergarten, AIS has the Thu Thiem all-through school, and the Thao Dien primary school. Today, the school is home to more than 1,100 students from around 40 different nationalities. This welcoming school provides the perfect setting for parents who prefer a smaller learning community, and also offers families the choice of moving on to the primary school at AIS’ other two campuses.

At the helm is head teacher Roderick Crouch, whose educational career has included schools in Australia, the UK, and the UAE. He leads a team of teachers from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the US, and the UK. The school is a member of ACG, a leading provider of private education in New Zealand, and AIS is its first and only school in Vietnam.

The curriculum

AIS’ Xi Kindergarten delivers the Dynotots programme to children aged two to four years. From the age of three, teaching is based on the International Baccalaureate’s Primary Years Programme (PYP), which focuses on languages (English, Chinese, and Vietnamese), maths, science, social studies, technology, art, music (including recorder lessons), swimming, and PE.

The school says,

“children can explore, think creatively and imaginatively, and solve problems all in a fun and challenging environment.”

The school offers a limited programme of extra-curricular activities on campus, which are led by the teaching staff. However, AIS also has a dedicated private sporting complex, the AIS Sports Centre, which is located close to the school and features a large outdoor pool, outdoor gym, netball court, basketball court, and astro-turf field. The venue is used for the school’s Kidzone programme of after-school activities, which includes water babies and soccer lessons from three years upwards.

The campus
AIS Xi Kindergarten is a purpose-built campus located within Thao Dien, District 2. Facilities include an enclosed playground complete with sandpit, ball pit, and trampolines, as well as a swimming pool, multipurpose room for music, PE, and special performances, and a kitchen for cooking classes.

Admission and fees

Annual tuition fees at AIS are moderate and start at VND 206,600,000; this includes lunch and snacks, stationery, day trips, and some after-school activities.
