Graduates from the world's top 50 universities can apply to work in the UK under a new visa scheme. The UK government hopes to attract the “brightest and best” graduates from countries include the US, Singapore and Hong Kong by offering a "high potential individual” visa route.

Alumni who graduated in the past five years from the world's top non-UK universities will be eligible for a two year visa if they hold a bachelor's or master's degree, and three years if they hold a PhD.

They must have attended a university that features in the top 50 of at least two of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings, or The Academic Ranking of World Universities in the year they graduated. This includes Harvard, Yale, University of Hong Kong, National University of Singapore (NUS), and Nanyang Technological University.

The new visa will be offered to graduates regardless of where they were born and they will not need a job offer to apply. It is part of the Government’s new post-Brexit points-based immigration drive to attract skilled and talented workers from around the world.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak said:

“We want the businesses of tomorrow to be built here today, which is why I call on students to take advantage of this incredible opportunity to forge their careers here."
