New international schools for 2022 and 2023

Dwight School Hanoi

undefined

The US-based Dwight School will open its first campus in Vietnam in August 2023. Dwight School Hanoi will be all-through IB school for students from pre-school to Grade 12.

Dwight School Hanoi plans to open its Lower School (Grades 1-5) in August 2023, followed by the Early Childhood Division (Preschool and Kindergarten), and Middle and Upper Schools (Grades 6-12) in August 2024. A state of the art campus is currently under construction at a 35,000 sqm site in The Manor Central Park, a new development in central Hanoi.

Founded in 1872 in New York, Dwight is a leading international IB World School with global campuses already in London, Dubai, Seoul, Shanghai, as well as Dwight’s Global Online campus. Dwight is international in its outlook and it offers the full suite of IB programmes – the Primary Years Programme (IBPYP), the Middle Years Programme (IBMYP), and the IB Diploma. It will be only the seventh international school in Vietnam to offer all three IB programmes.

Uppingham Vietnam

Uppingham Vietnam is due to open in 2023 as the first international school in the country to offer a UK public school day and boarding education. The prestigious Uppingham School has partnered with Viet Capital Education to open this co-ed school in Ho Chi Minh City.

Uppingham Vietnam will offer a choice of day, weekly or full boarding to students aged 11-18 years. Teaching will follow a UK curriculum that works towards IGCSEs and A Levels.

Uppingham School, which is located in a rural town in Leicestershire, offers a full boarding experience and broad curriculum to 800 students from across the UK and overseas. Founded in 1584, Uppingham was originally a boys-only boarding school, and alumni include comedian and actor Stephen Fry. Today, this co-ed school believes in breadth and flexibility, giving its students the freedom to follow a wide variety of paths to university – and a wide choice of A Level subjects.

The school hopes to position its new Vietnam campus as a "true alternative for Vietnamese students who may otherwise have considered studying abroad at a top private school in the UK or elsewhere.”

Brighton College Vietnam

Vingroup and Brighton College have signed an agreement to open the first Brighton College Vietnam international school in 2023. This British public-school export, which we have seen thrive in locations across the UAE and other parts of South East Asia, will retain major elements of Brighton College UK’s DNA to offer a progressive and well-rounded British education.

Located in Vinhomes Ocean Park, Gia Lam District, Hanoi, the school will open for Years 1 to 10 in August 2023, Years 11-13 will open in subsequent years. There are plans to open a further six Brighton College campuses across Vietnam in the future.

Teaching at Brighton College Vietnam will follow the National Curriculum for England, with music, Mandarin, French, art, PE, games and swimming all being taught by specialist teachers. It promises to be a well-rounded curriculum that prepares students for GCSEs in Years 10-11; in the Sixth Form, (Years 12 and 13) Brighton College Vietnam moves to an international pathway – the IB Diploma Programme – rather than A Levels.

North London Collegiate School Ho Chi Minh City

undefined

The highly selective, academically 'elite' British day school North London Collegiate School opened its first campus in Vietnam in August 2022 – a junior school for Vietnamese families. Located in Vietnam's largest city, North London Collegiate School Ho Chi Minh City (NLCS HCMC) is a co-ed bilingual school for students aged 6-11 years old. It is currently only enrolling students in Grade One (those born between 01/01/2016 and 31/12/2016), and will open Grade 2 in August 2023.

The school, which has a reputation for delivering strong results in external examinations, will offer a primary education based on Vietnamese, NLCS and international curricula. It promises to offer Vietnamese families the city's first selective, bilingual school with all the principles of an NLCS education – academic rigour, a diverse after-school enrichment programme, and individual pastoral care.

Westlink International School Hanoi

undefined

One of Vietnam's newest international schools, Westlink International School Hanoi opened its doors in 2022 to offer an inquiry-based education to both expat and Vietnamese students. WIS will be an all-through school for five to 18-year-olds; it is currently open for Grades 1-5 and will roll out the Grades 6-12 by 2025.

It's still very early days for this school but its motto – Dream, Strive, Succeed – certainly feels inspiring and motivational.

WIS is part of the UK-based International Schools Partnership (ISP), a network of 52 schools in 15 countries around the world; it also owns Hanoi Toronto School (HTS). WIS can benefit from the support of a strong investor and management team at ISP, which has aided the growth of schools such as The Aquila School in Dubai, for example. Another benefit of ISP ownership is that WIS can offer students opportunities such as an international buddy exchange programme, and global chess competitions and maths challenges.

Reigate Grammar School Vietnam

undefined

Reigate Grammar School Vietnam is a not-for-profit international school that blends a traditional British independent school education with Vietnamese values. The leading co-ed day and boarding school in Surrey, Reigate Grammar School, was the first British school to open a campus in Vietnam in 2021; in line with RGS UK, it is a selective school that still holds onto the grammar school approach of its founding roots as an-all boys free school in 1675.

Previously the International School of Vietnam (ISV), Reigate Grammar School Vietnam continues to offer a global education to students from pre-K through to Grade 12.  Located in Hanoi’s Hoang Mai district, ISV is a not-for-profit Cambridge International School that offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) for Grades 1 – 5, IGCSEs, the Cambridge AICE Diploma, and the IB Diploma Programme. It plans to offer the choice of A Levels in the Sixth Form from August 2023.

Reigate Grammar School Vietnam joins the international family of RGS Schools, located in the UK, China and Morocco. RGS is also planning to open a Sixth Form College in Hanoi in 2023, and, potentially, a third secondary international school soon after that.
