Vietnam Area Guides: Hanoi

Dong Anh Area Guide

“Increasingly popular as a tourist and expat destination, Vietnam's beaches, rivers, hilltops, Buddhist pagodas and bustling cities have really put this country on the map.”

One of Hanoi’s 17 rural districts, Dong Anh is located north of the Red River and just 30 minutes from the city centre, and 10 minutes from Noi Bai International Airport. This is a quiet, low-key neighbourhood that feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi’s Old and French Quarters. Dong Anh offers a much more traditional way of life compared to other districts, although the recently opened Concordia International School has attracted more expats to the community.

Van Tri Golf Club

Residents tend to travel mostly on motorbikes or cars and, while there is only a basic public transport system here, you can hail a motorcycle taxi or bus to travel anywhere within Hanoi. Use the Nhat Tan Bridge for quick and easy access to central Hanoi and expat neighbourhoods such as Tay Ho.

While there’s little in the way of entertainment here, sporting facilities include the popular Van Tri Golf Club and you can take a cruise along the Red River.

All your retail needs are covered under one roof at the Trang Thi Cho To Centre.

Bars and restaurants
There’s a wide choice of local cuisine in this corner of Hanoi, ranging from street vendors to fine dining options.
