Founded in 2015, this is a family-run independent Sixth Form College offering one-year retake and two-year A-Level Courses to a small community of students in the West Midlands.

This Birmingham-based college is gaining a reputation for top grades across maths and the sciences. Its strengths include small class sizes (average six students per class), teachers with experience of marking for exam boards, and tailored pathways for Oxbridge, medicine and law.

Located in a purpose-built Grade II Listed building, which was refurbished in 2021, the college offers the ideal learning environment for its exam-focused curriculum. It is small enough to offer personalised support and is more suited to those students looking for a an academically-focused college.

Curriculum

Students at Edgbaston come with a work hard ethic, and the college’s challenging, hothouse style of education will not suit every child.  The focus here is very much on results and progress. There are bi-weekly assessments for each subject, weekly personal tutor sessions, and pathway programmes for Oxbridge, medicine and dentistry, and banking, consulting and law.

Students here focus mainly on traditional, academic subjects; most popular are mathematics, chemistry, biology, history, and economics. Other options include economics, English literature, geography, history, physics, politics and psychology.

Most students follow the two-year A Level Programme, but the college also offers a five-term A Level programme and a one-year intensive retake programme; students study three A Level subjects and there are five-six hours per A Level subject each week.

Academic results

A Level results: A very high 86% of grades were A*-A grades, an increase from 70% in 2020 and 48% in 2019 (the last year that students sat exams). 93% of grades were A*-B.

Leavers’ destinations include many Russell Group universities, with a small number of Oxford and Cambridge offers every year, and many students go on to study Medicine, Dentistry, Law and Economics.

Admission and fees

Edgbaston has year-round admissions and is small enough to offer flexible start dates, although the academic calendar runs from September to July.

Fees are £11,250 for the two-year A Level programme, and range from £1,835 to £4,300 per term for retake programmes.
