The bodies of college head Emma Pattison, 45, her husband George, 39, and their seven-year-old daughter Lettie, were found in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to a report in The Telegraph, Surrey Police said that an investigation is being carried out to establish the circumstances of their deaths. At this stage, police said they are “confident that this is an isolated incident with no third-party involvement.”
According to the latest reports gunshots were heard before Mrs Pattison was discovered with her husband and daughter. A report by the BBC states that police believe Mrs Pattison was shot dead by her husband, before he killed their daughter and took his own life with the same gun.
Surrey Police, which is investigating, is due to give more information later today.
The school's 900 pupils were said to be "crying and terrified" at the prospect of returning to the school where there is still a significant police presence.
The school is considering and making plans to close early this week.
Dr Alastair Wells, Chair of the Board of Governors at Epsom College, said: “On behalf of everyone at Epsom College, I want to convey our utter shock and disbelief at this tragic news. Our immediate thoughts and condolences are with Emma’s family, friends and loved ones, and to the many pupils and colleagues whose lives she enriched throughout her distinguished career."
Tributes to Mrs Pattison and her family have been received from independent schools across the country.
