STEAM subjects are delivered in specially designed practical science laboratory spaces, art, design and textile studios, as well as engineering workshops and industry standard culinary arts kitchens.
At West Yas Academy we assess the learning of children in the Kindergarten very frequently, using a range of indicators of cognitive and emotional development. Older students’ learning is formally assessed using Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests to assess achievements in the core areas of learning. These tests are developmental and allow all students to experience success during the assessments. In all subjects, students of all ages will have their learning monitored continuously using a variety of methods.
Our older students will have their learning assessed at the end of Units of Inquiry, each term and end academic year. Assessments are in the form of tests, examinations, extended writing, projects, culminating activities, presentations and performances. Summary assessments form a significant part of the final grades that students earn. Senior students will write Advanced Placement examinations in May of their graduating year. The school is also a center for SAT assessments.
These two major assessments will facilitate access to universities and colleges in the US and other countries. The school provides assessments of students’ learning in Arabic and Islamic studies according to the policies of the UAE Ministry of Education.

We passionately believe that every member of West Yas Academy should feel valued and respected, which adheres to our Academy ethos and the UAE Child Rights legislations. Central to this is the expectation that students who attend West Yas Academy will display high standards of behavior and treat other people as they would wish to be treated. Our Academy expectations are regularly communicated with students through student notifications, house assemblies and they are also displayed in each classroom and homeroom. The key principles are related to the ‘West Yas Way’; We Respect Ourselves, We Respect Others, We Respect our Environment.
Formal school reports will be sent to parents three times yearly, at the ends of terms one and three. These reports link the students’ achievements to the expected levels in the Massachusetts curriculum. The reports give detailed information about all subjects, including the next steps for learning and development. We hold two parent-teacher conferences each year, providing opportunities for results to be discussed and the next steps to be planned. West Yas Academy’s strong community ethos means that informal conversations regarding students’ achievements will take place throughout the school year.
West Yas Academy provides on-site prayer-rooms for all Muslim students and staff. In addition, the school has positive community links with a new mosque located only 150 meters away from the school.
Our gifted program is supported by curriculum enrichment activities. Opportunities will include trips to observe music and speaking master classes and competitions with other Aldar Academies
