Teddy Bear Nursery Al Mushrif has replaced the branch previously located at Khalifa City A, and is part of a group of three nurseries operating in Abu Dhabi, first established in 2008. The other two are located in Al Bateen and Mohammed bin Zayed City. The nurseries follow an American Creative curriculum.
The story so far...
Teddy Bear Nursery Al Mushrif is the newest of three nurseries bearing the same name originally established in 2008. The original nursery at Khalifa City has now closed, to be replace by the Al Mushrif branch. The nurseries in Al Bateen (established in 2016) and Mohammed bin Zayed City (2018) are new additions to the group. Children are accepted from the age of 45 days (in line with UAE Maternity leave provision) to 4 years.
The group has recently come under the ownership of Liwa Education, owners of two schools in Al Ain, and a recently opened third school in Abu Dhabi also located in Al Mushrif.
The nursery informed us that they are uniquely placed to support families seeking nursery care. Teddy Bear Nurseries offer 12 plus years of experience in Abu Dhabi, with a holistic early years program delivered in a loving and safe environment. The nursery team believes that a happy child is a learning child, with the growth of well-being and independence nurtured in the nursery. The staff is dedicated to ensuring that each child is given a balanced education and is guided through his or her journey of discovery and exploration with a qualified experienced team of early years teachers.
The nursery in Al Mushrif provides care to some 170 children in mixed groups. Children from 30 different nationalities attend the nursery. They are supported by some 25 teachers who are a mix of native-English speakers from UK, USA, Canada, Australia and South Africa. All staff have minimum qualifications of a Bachelor Degree in Education or Early Years Diploma (Cache Level 3). Average class sizes range from 10 – 18 depending on age group, with a maximum class size of 18 and the teacher to student ratio varies from 1:4 for the youngest, to 1:5 and 1:8 depending on age group.
What about the curriculum?
The nursery follows the Early Years Creative Curriculum - an American curriculum with a particular focus on Life Skills and School Preparation. Children are taught through a Project Based Learning curriculum designed to be fun and engaging and carefully planned around the children’s needs, concentrating on three key learning areas and four specific learning areas. The curriculum is said to be "very effective and adapted for all age groups and their needs, encouraging children to develop new skills through active learning".
The three key learning areas encompass Communication and Language, Physical Development, and Personal, Social and Emotional Development, whilst specific learning areas focus on the more traditional subject-based areas of Literacy, Maths, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Designs. Children's individual learning needs are assessed and addressed through an Individual Learning and Development Plan.
The nursery supports children with Special Educational Needs through an Early Intervention Program provided onsite in partnership with Applied Behavior Institute (ABTi). A dedicated learning support teacher provides one on one and small group work activities with the children using a wide range of materials and activities already setup in the Montessori Learning Area. Such activities focus on practical life, art and creativity, sensorial, math and language.
Extra language provision for non-Arabic speakers is also provided for students. A Heritage room provides children with the opportunity to learn Arabic and participate in Islamic Studies within a unique cultural setting. The nursery also offers additional extra-curricular activities including Music Monkeys, Yoga, Karate and Football. Parents pay an extra fee for these activities.
After Teddy Bear Nursery, children go to a variety of British, American and UAE National curriculum schools and will obviously be encouraged to join the new Liwa International School Al Mushrif.
What about facilities?
The nursery provides spacious classrooms supported by a variety of indoor activity areas, whilst a large gym facility allows for running, ball sports, climbing, balancing and other developmental games.
A Music room is fully equipped with a Piano, puppets corner and children’s favorite musical instruments such as the Triangle, Tambourine, Maracas, Guiro, Xylophone, together with a Piano and puppets corner. Children also have access to a large outdoor space including a park like area, where they are able to run around on the grass, learn how to use the swings and slide independently, and play games.
Other outdoor spaces include a Car Park, fully equipped with balance bikes, trikes, scooters and cars where children have car races and learn to set up their own road network in this area. Play houses capture the children’s imaginations as they play with their friends and there is also access to Sand Play where children dig, share and build. During the warmer weather, children stay cool and refreshed exploring the Splash area.
What about the Fees?
Fees range from AED 19,500 to AED 33,000 per year. A variety of options are available in terms of the number of days spent at nursery, ranging from 2 days per week to a full 5 days. The nursery also offers Summer Camp and Spring camps and a Winter Club each year.
