Is Arabic taught as both a first language and second language in your school?

Arabic is taught as a living language. All teachers only use Classic Arabic (Fusha) in class and is an extremely important part of the curriculum at Star Al Twar.
Children are encouraged to extend their Arabic skills in real-life contexts. Arabic is the language of the Holy Quran. Extra-curricular activities further enhance their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. We observe Arabic Week, Haj, Ramadan, Hag el Laila, Islamic New Year, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) birthday etc.,
Within the Foundation Stage, all students study Arabic together. From Key Stage One, Arabic language classes at Star are divided into two sections:
Arabic A – For native Arabic speakers
The curriculum for Arabic A follows the UAE Ministry of Education(MOE) syllabus and is enhanced by a range of resource and activities that promote active and purposeful learning. We use the Asafeer Platform to enhance skills in Reading.
Arabic B – For non-native Arabic speakers
The Arabic B students are divided into differentiated levels within each year group to ensure that appropriate support is provided for each student.

Which other languages are taught?

We offer French lessons for students in Year 4 onwards. The curriculum is based on the National Curriculum for Modern Foreign Languages. Learning an additional foreign language at a young age provides the children with a sound basis on which they can build on in Key Stage 3 and 4. Students are taught in mixed ability classes and receive weekly lessons.

Is Islamic Education/Studies for the Arab Muslim students delivered in Arabic for them?

Islamic Education is a subject taught for Muslim students. It is taught in Arabic for Native speakers, and in English for those students who speak Arabic as an additional language. All our assemblies start with the Holy Quran and Hadith.
The Islamic department follows the Ministry of Education syllabus. The learning of Islamic concepts are combined with practical examples related to real life experiences. Our enthusiastic and dedicated teachers explain prescribed Islamic topics that include Hadiths, Aqidah (Faith), and Akhlaq (Manners), Islamic History, Islamic Social Studies together with the appropriate Surahs from the Noble Qu’ran. Daily Holy Quran recitation club is held.
