What are qualities and characteristics that define your school and its students?

Welcome to Star International School, Al Twar2. At Star we offer a warm, holistic approach to learning that encompasses a wide range of curricular and extracurricular routes to learning.

 

Offering the New National Curriculum of England, Star develops creative thinkers and problem solvers who will be ready to take on the world of tomorrow.

Our school nurtures and challenges pupils from FS1 – Year 11 to be the very best they can be through the expert guidance of our dynamic team of teachers and senior leaders.

 

Star Al Twar, places great emphasis on happiness, positivity and mindfulness for our children as well as our staff.

 

We look forward to welcoming new families into our school community, where we hope you will embrace our friendship, trust, and pursuit of excellence.

How many nationalities are represented in your school? How international would you say your school is?

With students from over 43  nationalities, Star International School Al Twar is proud of its international character, and the culturally rich diversified environment that we offer our students. Students have the opportunity to study and work together with others from different cultures and backgrounds. We celebrate International Day where we showcase different countries' traditions, food, and clothes.

Describe your school's approach to education and teaching?

Our Vision: Star International Al Twar, is an established school that nurtures students to reach their full potential, through personalized learning, providing high quality teaching and Enabling students to promote positive change in their communities.

Our Mission is to provide the highest quality of teaching using a rich variety of resources and technology underpinned by the National Curriculum of England. 

  

We encourage our pupils to develop a greater appreciation and understanding of a wide variety of cultures and traditions yet still value highly the family school atmosphere in which they will feel known, secure, and recognized as individuals. 

Physical education and sport is an important aspect of a healthy lifestyle. How does your school ensure children engage in physical activity?

Physical Education develops students' competence and confidence to take part in a range of physical activities that become a central part of their lives, both in and out of school.

Students at STAR are allocated 2 lessons per week in the PE department, one lesson is for PE and one is a swimming lesson.

At Star  International School Al Twar, students will be involved in problem-solving, communication with others and team-building. Students are encouraged to understand the importance of a healthy active lifestyle through participation. Here at Star, we promote PE through inter house competitions. We are actively looking to join the DASSA sports program next year to expand PE opportunities.

Is there a school uniform?

Which languages are taught at your school - please detail any as a first as well as second language?

French

We offer French lessons for students in Year 4 onwards. The curriculum is based on the National Curriculum for Modern Foreign Languages. Learning an additional foreign language at a young age provides the children with a sound basis on which they can build on in Key Stage 3 and 4. Students are taught in mixed ability classes and receive weekly lessons.

Do you have a learning support team in your school?

Star International School prides itself on being an inclusive school. Our school aims to provide all students with the opportunity to achieve their best academically, emotionally and socially. We welcome children with a rage of learning preferences, including Pupils of determination, students who are gifted and talented, and students who are English language learners.

The School actively seeks to recognize and meet the diverse needs of our students as part of our commitment is to provide a community of learners where parents, teachers and children work as a team to enable the development of our students skills to the best of their abilities and reach their full potential.

A robust procedure in identification and giving intervention is organised and adopted for our pupils of determination to ensure that provisions are planned upon entry to the classrooms. We provide the highest quality of teaching using a rich variety of resources and technology and encourage our pupils to develop a greater appreciation and understanding of a wide variety of cultures and traditions, yet still value highly, the family school atmosphere in which they will feel known, secure and recognised as individuals.

Star International School embraces and promotes Inclusive Education and has team members who are trained and equipped in handling learners regardless of their ability in the education sector.

Not all schools are staffed or resourced to offer learning support to those children with either moderate or significant learning needs. To what level can you offer support for those with learning differences?

We have a comprehensive Inclusion Support team comprising of experience and highly skilled staff. We have a dedicated inclusion room and lots of breakout areas outside of the classrooms for students to receive extra support in their learning or sensory breaks when needed.

Do you have a parents’ group supporting the school?

Yes. The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) is a partnership between parents, teachers, and staff who discuss matters to enhance student learning and enrich the lives of the students within the school. It is also a forum for parents to obtain knowledge and voice their opinions about what is happening in their school.

Are there opportunities for parents to support the learning, activities and events within the school or on trips other than through the parent group?

Partnerships between parents, educators, and children enhance children’s success. We all know that children learn more and have better lives when everyone in the school community works together to share thoughts and information and work on projects to benefit children.

STAR PTA organizes programs that benefit STAR students. Last year some of the programs included: • Healthy bazaars •Star Festival •International Day • Spring Book Fair •Enterprise Day • Organize Fundraising Events • Staff Appreciation Days and Daily Volunteers for Reading.

Is there an opportunity for parental representation on your school Board of Governors?

Star International School, Al Twar, also has a very active board of Governors. The Board consists of teachers, parents, admin, and other stakeholders.  The Board acts as a critical friend to the Principal and ensures that the school is moving in the right direction

Do you offer specific activities, events or information sessions for those parents new to the school and/or area?

Our commitment is to provide a community of learners, where parents, teachers, and children work as a team to enable all to develop their skills to the best of their abilities and reach their full potential. We see parents as senior partners in the education of their children and believe that when we work together, our children’s educational experience is enhanced.  We understand the importance of parental involvement in their child’s learning and therefore ensure that we build excellent lines of communication with all parents.  Curriculum workshops are offered throughout the year to help parents gain a secure understanding of the curriculum.  Through our website, emails, Dojo, and Learning Ladders parents are able to follow their child’s progress.
