LET'S GO

The main school is housed in a large modern, sandy coloured horse shoe shaped block with a playing field in the centre. An iron railed fence surrounds the school and a few shrubs have been planted. It looks nearly completed and landscaping, we imagine, will follow.

The main reception has black vinyl chairs and has the ‘just moved in’ feel. Two receptionists greeted our consultant and directed her to the desk behind them where the registrar was working. She was helpful and informative about school details and explained that they have spaces for pupils but this changes on a day to day basis. There is a school bus service and the children come from all over Dubai.

The staff are appointed both locally as well as from abroad and training is updated regularly by the KHDA ‘What Works’ development sessions.

Children wear a simple uniform of a blue polo T-shirt and beige skirt or shorts. As it was lunchtime when we visited the children were happily playing with great energy on the various climbing equipment which was shaded by huge sail awnings coming directly from the primary block. The teachers on duty seemed happy and involved with the kids.

Class size ranges from 22 to 24 per class and there are 45 different nationalities among the children. The staff nationalities are mixed, but primarily British. Some of the staff have been there long term. There is an active PTA from which many volunteers accompany school outings.

Overall a warm environment, but slightly chaotic, and clearly a work in progress.
