Redwood Montessori Nursery Al Furjan is one of four Redwood Montessori nurseries in Dubai (in addition to Redwood Center of Excellence, which follows a slightly different approach), with a further seven in Abu Dhabi and one operating in Doha, all owned and operated by Kids First Group.

The story so far…

Redwood Montessori Nursery Al Furjan is one of four Redwood Montessori nurseries in Dubai (in addition to Redwood Center of Excellence, which follows a slightly different approach), with a further seven in Abu Dhabi and one operating in Doha, all owned and operated by Kids First Group.

The latest branch to open in Dubai, Redwood Al Furjan is located within the West Furjan Pavilion, a shopping and community centre in the Furjan residential area.

What about the curriculum…

The nursery follows the Montessori approach, which holds the philosophy that children learn best through independent exploration and discovery in an environment that had been carefully prepared by the teacher.

Learning is supported by the use of Montessori specific materials (of which Redwood is extremely well kitted out with), while the teacher is present to aid in the child’s independent learning process, rather than to “teach” as such.

Redwood Montessori Al Furjan uses vertical grouping in the older age groups (children age three to six years), a practice which is very much in line with Montessori principles, with the aim that children learn from one another.

Read more about this approach in our guide to Montessori.

What about the environment and facilities…

The facilities at Redwood Al Furjan are quite simply outstanding, as is typically the case in the wider group of Redwood nurseries. Classrooms are spacious and tastefully decorated in earthy tones, as well as being exceedingly well equipped with a full range of specialist Montessori materials.

Outdoor play space is also attractive and engaging. Despite being located within a commercial building (which often indicates a nursery with a lack of space and little or no outdoor offering), the outdoor play space here is spacious, with a variety of play facilities on offer, including a sizable water play area, climbing equipment and tricycle track.

What about the ratios…

Adult to child ratios here are in line with KHDA requirements for nurseries and early childhood centres in Dubai. Class sizes, in terms of number of children per class, are at the higher end of what should be expected for a premium fee nursery, however it is important to note that this is quite typical in the Montessori model. Space in the nursery is plentiful, and so parents certainly have no reason to feel concerned about classrooms being overcrowded.

Class Name Age Range Maximum Class Size Adult to Child Ratio
Movers & Crawlers 45 days – 15 months 15 children 1:3
Toddlers 15 – 24 months 18 children 1:5
Playgroup 2 – 3 years 22 children 1:5
Casa 3 – 6 years 26 children 1:8

What about the timings…

Redwood Montessori Nursery Al Furjan offers a variety of options in terms of days and timings: 2, 3, 4 or 5 days per week and timings of 8am to either 1:00pm, 2 pm, 3:30pm, 5pm or 6pm. An early drop off from 7:30am is also available.

What about the fees…

Fees at Redwood Montessori Nursery Al Furjan are in the premium range for nurseries, but with flexibility offered in terms of number of days to be attended and part time or full time on offer, costs do vary.
