Redwood Nursery Al Bateen is one of eleven UAE-based (and one Qatar-based) nurseries and is located in the traditional Al Bateen area of Abu Dhabi Island.

Redwood UAE nurseries follow the authentic Montessori method which encourages learning by allowing and encouraging children to follow their own individual interests. This makes them self-motivated learners, leading to academic success and a life fully prepared to be self-sufficient.

Redwood Nursery Al Bateen is one of eleven UAE-based (and one Qatar-based) nurseries located in the traditional Al Bateen area of Abu Dhabi Island.

The Al Bateen nursery caters to children from 3 months to 4 years of age. Children are divided into groups of Babies (3 months to one year), Toddlers, (one to two years), Pre-schoolers (two to three years) and Foundation (three to four years).

The nursery operates daily from 7.30am to 6pm from Monday to Friday. Although the core times are 7.30am to 1pm, children who continue after 1pm are accommodated in the afternoon programme and Redwood Enrichment Programme.

The Montessori approach encourages mixed-age classes providing children with the opportunity to practice being mentors and leaders.

The open learning framework is said to stimulate each child’s enthusiasm for learning. Montessori teachers (directresses) are guides, facilitating learning without interfering with children’s natural desire to become independent.  The focus of the staff is on how best each child learns and to ensure that the children’s brains are stimulated at each stage of development. Each child is different and responds to dedicated attention from the highly qualified directors.

What about the curriculum?

The Montessori curriculum is based on the premise that children’s future abilities and interests are established within the first six years of development. Science shows that the quality of each child’s experiences, positive or negative, shapes their development. By age 5, the brain is 90% complete in terms of physical development.

Redwood nurseries’ staff use the science of how best to develop young minds to give children a foundation for learning and for later life. Learning is encouraged by enabling children to follow their own individual interests. This makes them self-motivated learners, leading to academic success and a life fully prepared to be self-sufficient.

Montessori incorporates a free play-based methodology giving every child the freedom to explore their unique abilities, setting them apart in the world later in life. In class, children learn the vital skills of cooperation and teamwork.

Montessori students experiment to learn themselves, instead of relying on others to tell them. They explore a full spectrum of skills, giving them a broad base from which to develop. Children learn in a hands-on way which deeply integrates this new knowledge into their minds.

Children are encouraged to explore their own interests through a wide range of extra-curriculum activities. These include dance, music, theatre, sports, and language. The approach helps the child develop the courage to try new things and builds their confidence and self-esteem.

What about the team behind the nursery?

The Al Bateen nursery is led by Nursery Director, Cherise Thompson.
The Redwood nurseries have been awarded the prestigious 'Great Place to Work' certificate based on an extensive survey among all Redwood nurseries’ staff. By fostering a supportive and inspiring environment for staff, the nursery group ensures that each child receives the utmost care and nurturing.

The group recognises that the early years are crucial for building a solid foundation for the children's futures, and staff take this responsibility seriously.  With the 'Great Place to Work' certification, parents can have confidence that staff are not only motivated and passionate but also fully committed to each child's happiness and development.

What about the facilities?

The nurseries were designed for optimal learning. Every aspect of the venue, facilities, food, and provided activities bestows new learning opportunities on a daily basis. The nurseries are carefully prepared environments where children can touch everything they see.

Specifically crafted natural environments stimulate children’s creativity and give young minds the opportunity to find and refine their unique abilities.  The nursery is an ideal venue for curious minds to safely explore and interact with the world.

Children’s rooms feature wooden furniture, with everything scaled to suit children. The nursery has several outdoor zones where children can relax, play and invent. This includes areas for physical play, climbing, and exploring water environments.
