Physical education and sport is an important aspect of a healthy lifestyle. How does your school ensure children engage in physical activity?

Children at Newlands School have a wide a variety of extra-curricular activities to improve physical and mental health.

How does your school promote healthy lifestyles?

We encourage students to eat healthy food and drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Water available for free in the school. Healthy living includes both physical and emotional wellness. We make sure our students stay happy and energetic during school and after school.

How do you promote healthy eating?

We encourage healthy eating policy at Newlands.
No crispy/crisps, chocolate products, cakes, fizzy drinks are available in the school. Our school canteen provides healthy and fresh food for all the students and staff.

Does the school have cafeteria facilities for the students?

Students eat food in their classrooms and maintain social distancing.

What is the starting and finishing time of your school day?

We open at 7:00 am for Newland Parents so they can drop off early.

Is there a school uniform?

Yes, we have a school uniform.

How often is the more formal feedback such as reports and parent/teacher meetings?

3 times a year.

Is Arabic taught as both a first language and second language in your school?

Yes, we have separate classes and Arabic teachers for students.

Which other languages are taught?

English, Arabic and French

Do you offer EAL or TEFL support for those students where English is not their first language?

Yes

Is Islamic Education/Studies for the Arab Muslim students delivered in Arabic for them?

Yes, as per KHDA regulation.

Do you have a dedicated prayer room/s for the Muslim students?

Yes, we have beautiful prayer rooms. One for boys and one for girls.

CEM, ASPECTS, BASE, CAT4, IGCSE

What percentage of your sixth form that take exams at 18 go to university, and where, in general, do they go?

Do you have a learning support team in your school?

Yes

Not all schools are staffed or resourced to offer learning support to those children with either moderate or significant learning needs. To what level can you offer support for those with learning differences?

We have a great SEN/EAL department as well as a gifted talented leader, who offers extensive support. All lessons are differentiated and children get individual homework and personal attention.

Does your school have particular expertise in dealing with a specific learning need such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, aspergers syndrome and so forth?

Yes, all the SMT are qualified and very experienced in SEN including the full range. Many teachers also have this knowledge.

Do you have a parents’ group supporting the school?

Yes, we have a Parent Council.

Is there an opportunity for parental representation on your school Board of Governors?

Yes

Do you offer specific activities, events or information sessions for those parents new to the school and/or area?

Yes, Biweekly sessions for all new parents. We offer training in all IT aspects etc to help the parents become familiar with what we do and how to use the system.
