Jumeirah International Nursery The Greens is located within the Regent International School campus and is one of nine nurseries/ECCs in this highly respected group, owned by Fortes Education.

The story so far…

JINS The Greens is owned by Fortes Education, also owners of Regent International School and Sunmarke School. With over 40 years of experience, Jumeirah International Nurseries is one of the most established and trusted nursery groups in Dubai. Other locations include JINS JVT, Al Safa, Downtown Dubai, Ghoroob, Villanova, Ibn Battuta, JBR and Palm Jumeirah.

JINS The Greens is located within the campus of Regent International School, providing 120 children from 29 different nationalities with a seamless transition from nursery through to the Early Years Foundation Stage at the school. Children are accepted from 45 days to three years, moving into the school for FS1.

The nursery is led by Head of Early Years, Michelle Williams, who has newly taken on the role in September 2022. Ms Williams is an enthusiastic and energetic leader, who brings several years of early years leadership experience with her.

What about the curriculum?

The Greens uses the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework with principles of the Reggio Emilia approach, incorporating natural materials and using ‘real’ objects to support the developing independence of the children, as well as the Curiosity Approach.

JINS is a project-based learning environment where children play a very important and active role in constructing their own learning. The projects which the children work on throughout the year are inspired by the questions which they ask their teachers, the thoughts and ideas they share with each other and the many interests that they display throughout their day at nursery. Long-term projects connect core academic areas in and out of the classrooms.

Additionally, the Positive Education™ philosophy which is embraced at the nurseries, emphasizes the development of the child’s personality, social skills, and self-image. This balanced curriculum allows for teachers to differentiate their instruction and encourage the individual child’s strengths and abilities.

To support the children to further develop their listening skills and encourage early development of phonics, following the Letters and Sounds Programme. This programme is divided into six phases, which focus on: Environmental Sounds, Instrumental Sounds, Body Percussion, Rhythm and Rhyme, Alliteration, Voice sounds, Oral Blending and Segmenting.

While the nursery uses the English language, children also receive Arabic and French language lessons weekly.

JINS The Greens aims to ensure that all children have an equal opportunity to engage in the curriculum and routines. As such, the nursery team develops practices to ensure that all children who have a special educational need are identified, assessed and the curriculum is differentiated to meet individual needs. This SEN provision is free of cost.

What about the facilities?

While located within the campus of Regent International School, JINS The Greens manages to retain the feel of a nurturing, enclosed early years space, while also being able to make use of several of the school’s facilities including its sports fields and its well-resourced and spacious early years library. Another plus point is the security of the location; the nursery shared the school's security gates and guard, who checks the identities of all visitors and ensures access is only granted parents, staff and pre-arranged visitors.

The nursery itself is pleasantly modest in size and feels very much like a high-quality community setting in the UK; not flashy or grand, but with substance in its high standard of early years practice and attention to detail (and let’s face it, these are the things that matter most for young children). Classrooms are carefully arranged in the Reggio Emilia style, and clearly designed around the needs and interests of the children in each class, rather than a standardised model.

The nursery also has a garden and mud kitchen in the common outdoor play area, where children have a chance to develop their imagination and social skills while role playing and exercising their green fingers, planting and watering the flowers. This play area also includes a variety of play equipment meant to support the development of the children’s gross motor skills, including their overall balance and coordination.

Each one of the five classrooms is equipped with its own child-sized washroom and changing table. This is particularly helpful during toilet training and in supporting children’s independence while using the washroom.

The nursery received a Health & Safety Rating Grade A from Dubai Municipality during their recent inspection in May 2021.

What about the staff and ratios?

The team at JINS The Greens are an evidently experienced and qualified group of Early Years Practitioners, all of whom have achieved their Cache Level 3 qualification or higher, offering a good mix of mid to senior level staff. 60% of remaining classroom staff are Cache Level 1 or 2 qualified. Average class sizes are 15-20 (with appropriate staffing) and each class was calm and engaged on the day of our visit.

Not only does the team at JINS The Greens benefit from access to the school’s facilities, it also benefits from additional expertise and training, as part of Fortes Education. With a broad range of expertise on hand across the group, these educators have enviable access to training and development opportunities.

Staff to student ratios are low, with a ratio of 1 adult: 3 babies for children aged 45 days – 1 year,  1:4 for those aged 1 - 2 years and 1:5 for those of 2.1 – 3 years.

What about the timings?

The nursery offers an early class from 7:00 am to 8:00 am, a morning programme from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm and an afternoon programme: 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm and children may attend over three, four or five days from Monday to Friday.

What about the fees?

Fees range from AED 11,290 for the morning programme three days per week, increasing to AED 12,290 for five days per term. Afternoon programme fees range from AED 3,565 for three days to AED 4,750 for five days. A full day from 8am to 6pm for three days is AED 14,855 and for five days, AED 17,040.
