The WSA Visit, What We Found
Arrived 11.15 am. and our consultant announced herself at the door and was admitted immediately. Found the office having entered via a great outdoor play area where there was a lot of up-to-date climbing and play equipment.
The nursery is housed in a large villa with a secure walled garden. There is a pleasant hallway with sofas and tables which have puzzle toys on them. The walls were bright and colourful with child height interactive textures and mirrors.
The children were led in and out by teachers and all looked happy and lively but clearly under control. There was a happy singing class upstairs but a sense of calm and gentle discipline.
Our consultant spoke initially to Armi, one of the admin officers who was very helpful and welcoming. She suggested our consultant wait to speak to Amanda her colleague who was extremely positive about the nursery. She clearly loves her work - 'this is the best job in the world'.
Amanda gave our consultant a full tour of the school which has two floors with gated stairs which she explained they use as part of their education - children should know how to climb stairs safely. The children move around a lot as every half an hour they shift from one area to another. For example they have a small swimming pool, a water play area, a cute library and many classes have an interactive whiteboard. Included in the nursery is Zig-Zag-Zoom which is a separate building housing a ballpit, play houses and a role play section. This can be transformed from a supermarket to an aeroplane to a restaurant from week to week. This also contains a specific soft play area for the really small children - the nursery takes babies from six weeks old.
The cutest thing was seeing the giant pushchair where babies old enough to sit up safely were transported by the assistants with little seatbelts sitting in rows. While we were there we were shown into a class of happy singers who were being led by a really enthusiastic gentleman with his guitar with full actions and excitement. The nursery lives up to its name with more than 35 nationalities attending.
