The school was established in September 2007 and offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes.  It is an "International Baccalaureate World Continuum School" meaning that if offers all four IB programmes.

Describe your school's approach to education and teaching?

“As committed IB practitioners, our staff at GIS are experienced international educators and the driving force behind the school’s academic and pastoral success. Our classrooms are vibrant student-centred environments where inquiry-based approaches are balanced with direct teaching. Our teachers actively strive to encourage children’s natural curiosity and love of learning. They take great care to support each child’s social and emotional growth.”

Physical education and sport is an important aspect of a healthy lifestyle. How does your school ensure children engage in physical activity?

The school offers a variety of teacher-led sports ECAs and collaborates with the East Sports Management (ESM), the leading sports management and coaching company in the UAE, providing sports training conducted by professional coaches for both children and adults of all levels. In the past 4 years, basketball has been on the rise at GIS leading to ultimate success in 2017 when U16 boys basketball team won DASSA Cup.

How does your school promote healthy lifestyles?

A healthy lifestyle is promoted via information sessions, fitness activities and varieties of sports ECAs.

How do you promote healthy eating?

Healthy eating is promoted via information sessions about nutrition delivered by doctors.

Does the school have cafeteria facilities for the students? How does it promote a balanced diet?

Both, Primary and Secondary school buildings have cafeterias.

What is the starting and finishing time of your school day?

Pre-K- KG1: 7:45 am- 2:15 pm / KG2-G10: 7:45 am - 3:00 pm

Is there a school uniform?

The school has a dress code. Uniforms can be purchased from the official provider.

Which languages are taught at your school - please detail any as a first as well as second language?

Beginning in Pre-K our students are offered the opportunity to learn French or German as a foreign language with lessons being scheduled 2-3 times a week as part of IB curriculum. Additionally, for students who express an interest in more intensive study one of these languages we offer French or German lessons as part of free extracurricular activities (DELF Prim and FIT in Deutsch 1) with a possibility of acquiring internationally recognised certificate upon passing the exams.

Do you offer EAL or TEFL support for those students where English is not their first language?

We are truly an international school with over 80 nationalities and, for a large number of our students, English is their second language. Therefore, for the students who speak little or no English, we offer English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme. Our teachers are also trained to support students accessing their regular lessons in English.

Do you offer a dedicated prayer room/s for students? For which faiths?

The school has dedicated prayer rooms for Muslim students.

How do you support gifted, able and talented students?

The school supports its students in nourishing and developing their talents in music and the performing arts through teacher-led ECAs such as choir, violin and other music classes. We also collaborate with the Dubai Performing Arts Academy to bring professional dance and acting classes to our students.

Do you have a learning support team in your school?

To support students identified as experiencing SEND we develop personalised individual education plans (IEPs). We also ensure students who experience SEND are actively supported to participate in the process of learning as they develop their potential, and build relationships with their peers, through social interactions in age-appropriate common learning environments.

Do you have a parents’ group supporting the school?

The school has a very active and involved parents committee.

Are there opportunities for parents to support the learning, activities and events within the school or on trips other than through the parent group?

Different departments (Math, Arabic, etc) within the school organise sessions where parents can participate in the teaching/learning process.

Do you offer specific activities, events or information sessions for those parents new to the school and/or area?

There is a number of information sessions for parents run throughout the Academic year.
