Glendale International School is a new English National Curriculum school that will open in September 2023.

The story so far...

Glendale International School is a new school that will open on its site next to the American Hospital in Umm Hurair, Oud Metha, in September 2023. It will initially offer places from FS1 to Year 6, opening Years 7, 8 and 9 in the subsequent three years.

The school is part of the Global Schools Foundation, a Singapore-headquartered, though predominantly Indian run, not-for-profit organisation, that educates approximately 31,000 students of over 70 nationalities. The group operates across ten countries in Asia and the Middle East including Global Indian International School in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. It also owns one school in the UK. Whilst the GIIS schools follow the CBSE curriculum, others in the group follow a mix of the IB curriculum and UK-based IGCSE curriculum.

The school will be led by Ms. Jasmit Kaur Kang, who has joined the new school from English National curriculum Capital School Dubai, where from her position as Vice Principal, she was largely responsible for the achievement of a Good rating from the KHDA during the 2021-22 post-Covid inspections. Prior to her appointment to Capital School, Ms. Kang had been Deputy Head at Raffles International School.

Further details about staffing have not yet been provided.

What about the curriculum?

The school will offer the National Curriculum for England (NCfE) for students joining Years 1 to 6, and the Early Years Foundation Stage for students joining FS1 and FS2.

Full details of after-school and co-curricular activities are not yet available, but the school states that it will provide a range of resources and programmes to support students' emotional, moral and spiritual well-being. All aspects of well-being will be taught in every year group that advocates health and fitness, as well as happiness. In addition, the Leader in Me programme, which is based on the values of Responsibility, Achievement, Resilience, Humility, Empathy, Collaboration and Mindfulness, will also be provided.

What about the facilities?

Aside from the school location, no information is currently available about the school's facilities.  One challenge that parents will potentially face are the traffic issues around the Oud Metha area.

What about the fees?

KHDA approved fees range from AED 42,000 in FS to AED 55,200 in Year 6.  Fees for the Secondary school start at AED 55,200 in Year 7 rising to AED 57,600 for Years 8 and 9.  These are definitely more on the premium than the affordable fee level.

The school is offering discounted fees to the first three years of operation, resulting in FS fees being reduced to AED 33,600 whilst Year 6 fees are reduced to AED 44,600.  Full details can be found under the Fees and Availability tab.

The school is offering a limited number of Founding families a 20% Discount on the Annual Tuition Fee for the next 5 academic years.

Additional fees include a Registration Fee of AED 1000 per application which is a Non-refundable, Non-Adjustable, one-time payment, payable upon submission of the application form.

An Admission Fee of AED 800 per student, payable upon confirmation of admission is also a Non-refundable, Non-Adjustable, one-time payment.

Sibling Subsidies of 3% on tuition fees is available for all siblings under the Founding Family programme. There will be 10% sibling subsidy for all families who fall outside the Founding Family programme.

There is also a mandatory Annually Recurring Book Fee of AED 900, together with a yet unspecified Tablet/Laptop fee.

There will also be an annual Re-registration Fee (Only for Continuing Students from any GSF Member school) of AED 550 which will be adjusted with Term 3 fees of the applicable academic year.
