Welcome to the GEMS World Academy Dubai official Q and A page. Here we ask the questions, and the school answers directly. It is its chance to have its say on specific areas you have told us you want to know about. If you think there are additional questions we should be asking you may contact us here.
We are a truly international school representing over 90 different nationalities with no dominant ethnic group. We celebrate what makes us similar, but also what makes us different (think International Day and Winter Festival for example). Our aim is to develop world citizens who live together peacefully and in tolerance and respect for other cultures.
Even though GEMS World Academy Dubai is very strong in areas such as Design, Music and Sport, we are committed to a holistic excellence. We have a balanced program in other fields as well and support our students in their areas of needs challenging and extending their gifts and talents.
Again, we are a school committed to providing outstanding learning opportunities. Within the curriculum, students have access to an extensive range of 1-to-1 IT devices. This is to support learning and skill development by using the latest equipment such as 3D printers and laser cutters to create models of the student’s designs as well as recording studios/green screen rooms for different projects within the school. We are striving to develop the potential of our students providing them with the tools on how to “think outside the box”.
After 9 successful years, GWA – Dubai has established a reputation of world class facilities in combination with a devoted staff who strives to get the very best out of every student and prepare them for a life as global world citizens. We are also a school with conscience and our students are provided with several opportunities to lead and participate in charitable activities.
Parents have described our school as a melting pot where multi-cultural differences are respected and celebrated. Our “Open Door policy”, in combination with a very active parent community has resulted in a friendly and positive ambience for all members of the GWA family. We strive to ensure that the school culture and climate “feels” different than any other school in Dubai – and we think that we do.

We have a very active parent community in our Parent Association GWAPA. By automatic, every parent is a member of GWAPA but you choose your level of involvement. Parents who wish to participate and engage themselves a bit more apply for a position in the GWAPA committee where every member is responsible for certain areas of the school: Event coordinator, Food Service, Eco-School Coordinator etc. Parents outside the committee can volunteer to engage themselves in events like Spring Fair, Sports Days, International Day among other things.
Yes absolutely; all parents with students in Elementary school are invited to participate in the Morning Assemblies and the assemblies are also live streamed so even when parents are travelling or families in the home countries can follow the assemblies. Parents are also frequent story readers for our younger students in their classrooms and participate as chaperones on field trips. Parents are also invited to the weekly coffee mornings and/presentations held by members of our Senior Leadership Team and many parents take the opportunity to step up as guest speakers during our career days in Secondary school in order to inform students about different career paths. We welcome all forms of parent engagement and are always open to new ideas from our parent community!
We hold specific information sessions to all our new parents as well as training days for how to manage the parent portals etc. Our Parent Association GWAPA is also arranging special Welcome Coffee Mornings for newcomers. GWAPA also assist new parents with limited knowledge in English so they can have an introduction of the school in their native language by a "buddy".

while researching GEMs Wellington Academy, Al Khail on WSA, I find that your listing points to GEMs Wellington Academy, Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO). I cannot find a relevant review
Hi Marc, apologies for this, and apologies for the delay in replying. We have been working on rectifying this. The review may be found here: http://whichschooladvisor.com/review_article/gems-wellington-academy-al-khail-dubai-first-review/
You have to wonder, while many of the facilities are impressive...are they really necessary? A planetarium is nice and all, but how many students actually end up using it to it's full potential?
Hopefully this school puts education before profits. But since the parents seem happy, the school must be doing something right.
