Details are still thin, but GEMS School of Digital Futures will offer pathways to a future in Sustainability, digital media and financial and security technologies...

Initially slated to open in September 2018, GEMS School of Digital Futures was postponed September 2019, and has since been postponed indefinitely.

According to a statement released to our sister site, SchoolsCompared.com.

“The GEMS Education management team has decided to defer the opening of the GEMS School of Digital Futures until September 2019, in order to guarantee that we are able to make the school the state of the art digital and learning environment that we want it to be, and to provide the very best learning experiences that your children will receive.

GEMS Education is working closely with parents who have enrolled their children, to support and alleviate any stress they may face regarding the placement of their child in a relevant alternative GEMS school until the 2019-20 academic year.” GEMS Education spokesperson

The school had been expected to open on the fringes of new Dubai, in Al Waha, an area adjacent to Dubai Sustainability City. Al Waha was also slated to be the home to GEMS Vertus School, which was again to open in September 2018.

No curriculum for the school was announced.

Outside the core framework, the school was to focus on Cryptology, leading to a "unique qualification pathway centered on the future of digital finance"and digital media production, with "learning focused on creative and media fluency, film, sound, music, and post production". It also becomes the third school, after the well publicised Arbor School and Fairgreen International (located within Sustainable City so a close neighbour), to embrace sustainability within the curriculum.

The founding principal the school had been slated to be Matthew Tomkins, who had previously led a new school, Skinners' Kent Academy in the UK, to an outstanding OFSTED rating "in record time", and had "been highly commended for how technology is used to secure outstanding student outcomes".

Tomkins has since taken over as head of GEMS FirstPoint School.
