GEMS New Our Own Private High School Sharjah will be GEMS Education's 48th school in the UAE and its 17th Indian curriculum. Initially opening from KG1 to Grade 5, the school will offer the CBSE curriculum expanding over time to offer a full KG-Grade 12 through school.

The announcement of a new GEMS Indian Curriculum school will no doubt be very welcome for parents in Sharjah, but also potentially to those living in the northern areas of Dubai, in Ajman and other Northern Emirates.  The school is slated to open on 8th April 2018, just in time for the start of the 2018-19 academic year.

Current information on the school is relatively limited, but we do know that at capacity, it will educate 10,000 children with mixed gender classes until Grade 3, after which children will be separated into Boys' and Girls' sections.  Class sizes will be 25 in KG and a maximum of 30 from Grade 1 upwards.

The school's own website is not yet up and running, but its dedicated section on the GEMS Education website tells us that "GEMS New Our Own Private High School, Sharjah, is planned and designed by professionals to empower all children. Our pedagogic efforts will aim at enhancing our children’s natural desire to learn in the 21st century".

The curriculum is designed to ensure "an exemplary learning experience for happy minds". The new school will offer "a springboard to refocus education, converting tools, research and strategies into action. We will guide children to be empathetic and ethical across every setting and will develop tools for civic and community outreach".

There is a promise of "Effective student-centred engagement" which will encourage students towards ‘deeper learning’, with an emphasis on mastering core academic content, thinking critically and solving complex problems, working collaboratively, communicating effectively and learning how to learn.  The school will foster a culture of trust and autonomy.

As with any new GEMS school, the Group's reputation will go before it and parents will no doubt be delighted to have this additional option, even if at such short notice.

Fees at the new school will be in the moderate range, starting at AED 14,000 in KG, AED 16,000 in Grades 1-3 and AED 18,000 in Grades 4 and 5.  Generous Founders' Fee reductions are available to families joining in the first year, with a promise of discounts across the first 4 years of education at the school.  These are 40% in the first year, 30% in the second year, 20% in the third year and 10%  in the fourth year.
