GEMS New Millennium School is located near two other GEMS schools at the edge of the Dubai Hills development immediately off the Al Khail Road and Al Marabea Street. The school was established with the intention of providing an Indian curriculum education to families moving into the Dubai Hills and Mohammed Bin Rashid City developments. However, in reality, it serves children travelling from a wide area across Dubai.

GEMS New Millennium School is the only CBSE school in the region with an international perspective. At NMS, we are committed to learning and excellence, nurturing our students in a confident, competent and innovative environment, allowing them to find and realize their true potential.

How many nationalities are represented in your school? How international would you say your school is?

We are also privileged to host an ever-expanding multi-cultural community with 25 different nationalities of students who study with us.

Describe your school's approach to education and teaching?

The Curriculum at GEMS New Millennium School is based on the Central Board Secondary Educations of India (CBSE) and is classified into key stages:

Working seamlessly with the subject areas, the curriculum framework is brimming with opportunities for young minds to learn within context. Teachers prepare themselves for successful experiences that promote deep learning.

Our students come from over 25+ different countries and internationalism prevails in the ethos of our school. All the cultures and identities of our students is promoted through the enriched curriculum with a dual pathway in the senior school. We offer both the CBSE and the IGCSE/A Level, starting Grade 9 or Year 10 respectively.

Although evidence suggests that theme-based weeks give students the freedom to connect and collaborate across subjects, there’s also room for regular lessons that provide students with platforms for intensive learning experiences.

Our curriculum is carefully reviewed for continuity, progression and challenge across grades. With the UAE National Agenda in mind, suitable modifications are made along with opportunities for strategic cross-curricular link-ups.

Do you develop independent learning through homework and, if so, what are your recommendations regarding this, particularly time spent on homework?

Yes we do develop our students with an independent learning through homework. We have a Learning Portal www.gems.ae

and homework is uploaded daily on this portal.

Physical education and sport is an important aspect of a healthy lifestyle. How does your school ensure children engage in physical activity?

Each student at GEMS New Millennium School has the resources to get the most out of their school life academically, artistically and physically. We have indoor & outdoor sports activities, P.E and Swimming once a week from Pre KG till Grade12.

How does your school promote healthy lifestyles?

Physical education, comprising of indoor and outdoor sports and exercises, along with well being program is an integral part of our school. We also conduct well being workshops to educate our students to inculcate good eating habits and health lifestyles.

How do you promote healthy eating?

We encourage students to eat healthy and nutritious food. The school canteen also provides healthy food. Their meal plans strictly abide by nutritional guidelines, and the meals are served in just the right portions to ensure sufficient nutrient content.

Does the school have cafeteria facilities for the students? How does it promote a balanced diet?

Yes, we have a canteen.

What is the starting and finishing time of your school day?

Pre-K & KG2 : 7:30am - 1:30pm

Grade 1 to Grade 8 : 7:30am - 1:30pm ; PACT students (Day boarding) 7:30am - 3:30pm (Optional) on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

Grade 9 to Grade 12: 7:30am - 1:30pm on Sunday and Thursday

Grade 9 to Grade 12: 7:30am-3:30pm on Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday

Is there a school uniform?

Yes, we do have a school uniform.

NMS's behavioral policy defines the role and responsibilities, including the expectations that we have of each member of our school community. We have high expectations and always expect everyone to be kind, friendly and above all respectful to all who are part of our school community and the larger society.

How do you feedback progress and attainment to students and parents?

We conduct a Parent Teacher Meeting (PTM/Open House) between parents and teachers once in every 3 months. (End of Each Term )

How often is the more formal feedback such as reports and parent/teacher meetings?

Through parent teacher meetings we inform parents about the students performance. If required, we do devise an intervention plan to help the child to improve his/her performance.

Which languages are taught at your school - please detail any as a first as well as second language?

We offer French, Hindi, and Malayalam as optional second language.

Do you offer EAL or TEFL support for those students where English is not their first language?

Yes we do offer EAL support.

Do you offer a dedicated prayer room/s for students? For which faiths?

Yes we have two dedicated prayer rooms, separate for males and females.

How do you support gifted, able and talented students?

At NMS, we have adopted the differentiated model of Gifted and Talent. We support them by providing extra resources and worksheets which help them to achieve more.

Do you have a learning support team in your school?

Yes we do have a learning Support team.

Does your school have particular expertise in dealing with a specific learning need such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, aspergers syndrome and so forth?

Yes, we do have a dedicated SEND team which help students with specific learning needs.

Does your school have an educational psychologist or access to one to assess and support those youngsters with more challenging learning and emotional needs?

We have a School Counselor who is always available in the school to assist and guide students, as and when required.

Do you have a parents’ group supporting the school?

Yes, we do have an active Parent Focus Group that supports learning, activities and events within the school.

Are there opportunities for parents to support the learning, activities and events within the school or on trips other than through the parent group?

Yes there are several opportunities for other parents who come and support the learning, activities and events within the school like Read a book program, learning walks for parents where in they see the actual learning happening in the classroom.

Is there an opportunity for parental representation on your school Board of Governors?

Yes we have parents who is on the school Board of Governors (Local Governing Body)

Do you offer specific activities, events or information sessions for those parents new to the school and/or area?

Yes we do conduct parent orientation for new and existing parents at the beginning of the academic year. Also, we conduct weekly orientation for new parents who join us during the term.
