The story so far...
English Language Private School is currently ranked Acceptable by the KHDA, Dubai's education regulator, an encouraging move after being rated Unsatisfactory from 2009 to 2012/13. This is the third year that the school has been rated Acceptable.
The school was first established in April 1978 and currently caters to an estimated 1550 students, with the majority of students coming from Pakistan. The school haapproximately 100 staff, the majority of which are from Pakistan as well. Class sizes are estimated to be 25 students per class and teacher to student ration is at 1:15.
The school offers the English National Curriculum which culminate in students taking IGCSE examinations usually at Year 11 and Advanced level examinations usually at age 18. Students also follow the Ministry of Education curricula for Arabic and Islamic Education.
The school organises students into four phases: The Foundation Stage, Key Stages 1 and 2, (primary), Key Stages 3 and 4 (secondary) and Key Stage 5 (post-16). Children are taught in mixed gender classes until Year 4 when boys and girls are taught separately.
Key strengths of the school include students' good attainment and progress in secondary English; Students' good progress in science in the Foundation Stage and in post-16 phase; and Students' good personal and social development across all phases.
The school still needs to progress in Arabic as an additional language; Improve students' attainment and progress in mathematics: make better use of Early Years Foundation Stage and English curriculum standards; Increase the effectiveness of teaching; Improve the quality of assessment data particularly in primary and secondary phases;and improve facilities and resources by increasing laboratory provision, and stocking libraries adequately.
The school also needs to focus on the use of learning time. The KHDA report notes that the school needs to "implement strategies which raise attendance rates and improve punctuality, to reduce lost learning time [and] ensure that all lessons start immediately and engage students in learning."
This can be achieved partly, with a board that "works with school leaders to create a learning environment that is bright, well ventilated and enables teachers to provide opportunities for collaborative learning."
Fees are very affordable, ranging from 3,567 AED at KG1 and rising to 10,516 AED in Year 12.
