What qualities and characteristics would you say define your school?

Dubai Arabian American Private School is a well established community school that offers an US curriculum while celebrating the cultures and traditions of the predominantly Arab nationalities in the school. The school is aligned to the American Curriculum specific to the State of California. Students are encouraged to become leaders and are active in supporting the school in planning and implementing the strategic goals.

The school has been awarded NEASC Accreditation in April 2020 with comments on the transformative actions the school has taken to best support its scholars.

In addition to core subjects, the educational experience is balanced with specials and elective classes and extracurricular activities.

How many nationalities are represented in your school?

Although the Emirati population is most dominant, the school nationalities most often represent the Gulf region. This academic year, fifteen different nationalities are represented in the student demographics.

Are there high proportions of a particular nationality?

Seventy five percent of students are Emirati.

Describe your school's approach to education and teaching?

As a priority, leading by example is an ongoing theme in the school. This is inclusive of all stakeholders at the school. Next, the school operates as a team with all adults being actively involved with the educational process for each student. This includes daily discussions and reflections facilitated by any of the educators on campus.

Additionally, the school is very thorough in assessments and data analysis. This supports the school in understanding the whole student and their academic starting points to support scaffolding and differentiation in instruction.

Physical education and sport is an important aspect of a healthy lifestyle. How does your school ensure children engage in physical activity?

Students in grades K-10 have organized movement or Physical Education classes. Additionally, wellness and health activities are ongoing at the school. The canteen offers fresh food choices daily so the students can be well nourished.

How does your school promote healthy lifestyles?

Awareness campaigns, public announcements and competitions all support healthy life styles at the school.

How do you promote healthy eating?

The school has a healthy eating policy and continues to educate students about their choices.

Does the school have cafeteria facilities for the students?


If yes, does it serve hot food?

Yes. The cafeteria offered a a la carte menu with both hot and cold offerings.

What would be the amount spent by a student for their lunchtime meal?

The average student spend 10-20 AED for break snacks/lunch.

What is the starting and finishing time of your school day?

Students report to assembly at 7.30am. Early childhood classes (KG1/KG20 dismiss at 12.30pm this academic year and grades 1-12 dismiss at 2.15 Sunday thru Thursday.

Is there a school uniform?

Yes. School uniforms are navy blue slacks or jumpers for females and a light blue oxford collared shirt.

How do you feedback progress and attainment to students and parents?

Formal feedback is provided to parents 4x per year. Twice through reports identifying mastery of skills in various subjects and communicated through Student Led Conferences. Additionally, two comprehensive report cards are provided to parents at the end of each semester. Parents have the opportunity to monitor student grades on the parent portal. Students of Determination receive progress reports specific to their IEP goals 4x annually inline with the schools formal reporting timeline.

How often is the more formal feedback such as reports and parent/teacher meetings?

What is your medium of instruction?

The medium of instruction for all classes with the exception of Arabic, Islamic and UAE Social Studies in American English. The aforementioned classes are taught in Arabic.

Do you offer EAL or TEFL support for those students where English is not their first language?

The school implements an immersion strategy where scaffolding for languages occurs in the mainstream classes with differentiated support as needed.

Is Islamic Education/Studies for the Arab Muslim students delivered in Arabic for them?

Yes, the school aligns to the Ministry of Education language of instruction policy for both Arabic and Islamic.

If external examinations and assessments are part of your curriculum, which ones do you offer?

The school administers Cognitive Ability Test (CAT) 4, Measurement of Adequate Progress (MAP) 3x per year supporting National Agenda parameter assessments. For high school students, the school facilitates IELTS , SAT and emSAT support so that students are successful in university admissions.

How do you support gifted, able and talented students?

The Futuristic Mustangs is a newly implemented for gifted and talented students. Students identified are provided with opportunities and challenges that support their individual talents.

What percentage of your sixth form that take exams at 18 go to university, and where, in general, do they go?

Currently, the majority of students attend universities in the UAE.

Do you have a learning support team in your school?

The school has an Inclusion Department that specializes in the identification and supporting students admitted into the program.

Not all schools are staffed or resourced to offer learning support to those children with either moderate or significant learning needs. To what level can you offer support for those with learning differences?

The school best serves students with Specific Learning Disabilities or Autism.

Does your school have particular expertise in dealing with a specific learning need such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, aspergers syndrome and so forth?

The Head of Inclusion is an expert is areas of special education and prepares teachers for all needs through a collaborative efforts of the academic team supporting the student.

Does your school have an educational psychologist or access to one to assess and support those youngsters with more challenging learning and emotional needs?
