Dewvale School is a new CBSE curriculum school opening in Dubai in April 2023.

The story so far...

Dewvale School is a late arrival on the education scene in Dubai for the new 2023-24 academic year, opening its campus on 218th Street in Al Qouz 4.

Although it may be a new name and organisation, there is a definite ring of familiarity given evident connections to the school that was formally located on its site.  Until August 2021, this was the home of AMLED school, which closed unexpectedly shortly before the start of the 2021-22 academic year, citing the impact of Covid on student numbers.

Coincidentally, the new school will be led by Ms. Seema Umar, who will be a familiar name to former AMLED families as, with a seven year tenure at the school, she was Acting Principal for seven months in the year prior to its closure.  In August 2021, following the closure, Ms. Umar joined The Central School as Vice Principal.

The school's website is currently not operational - probably because full KHDA approval has not yet been received - but a snippet from it notes that:

"Dewvale School Al-Quoz provides an inspiring and energizing environment that places the happiness of your child at its heart because a happy child is an engaged child, a child fully able to explore the stimulating world of knowledge and ideas that await at our wonderful school. Life long learning is at the core of our ethos and every child is encouraged to make every day a positive learning experience as we work to develop and strengthen young minds, whilst nurturing the individual creative power of nascent imaginations."

The school is set to open from pre-KG to Grade 5 for the 2023-24 academic year, although as at mid-April, it was still actively recruiting teachers. No official opening date is available currently.

What about the curriculum?

The school, unsurprisingly, will follow the CBSE curriculum. No additional details are available at the present time.

What about the facilities?

At the time of AMLED's operations, the school occupied a site that ensured adequate facilities within the building, although outdoor PE space was at something of a premium.

The kindergarten classrooms all opened out onto large shaded outdoor areas filled with high quality play equipment for games and fun. All the play areas have rubberized, soft flooring.

Shared facilities included a library, which used by all children as an integral part of their learning as it offered a quiet study space and included online sources, as well as hard copies of books and other resources. It had a well equipped ICT infrastructure which included laptops, i-pads and interactive whiteboards in every classroom.

In addition, the school also offered an Art Studio, encouraging creative activity and a Music studio where children from Kindergarten onwards were given the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of classroom music activities.

PE facilities, which included a splash pool and swimming pool, were aimed at facilitating a well-balanced programme of sport including football, basketball, swimming, athletics, gymnastics and aerobics. The multi-purpose auditorium, which had a seating capacity of 600, was used for inter-house competitions, indoor sports and assemblies.

We would expect that much of the infrastructure will be in place as under the previous school's operations.

What about the fees?

KHDA approved tuition fees range from AED 12,000 in pre-KG to AED 18,745 in Grade 5.  However, the school is offering significant discounts during its first three years of operation, with pre-KG fees reduced to AED 9,000 whilst Grade 5 fees are AED 11,952.  There is an increment of approximately AED 500 per year per grade.  There is a charge of AED 2,000 to AED 2,500 per month for the use of a Learning Support Assistant.

However, parents should be aware that there are also a range of additional annual fees to be taken into account. Whilst all may not be obligatory, many are.

These include Transport (AED 4,000 to 6,000), Uniform (AED 350 to 450)
Books (AED 350 to 450), Stationery (AED 200 to 250), National Agenda Parameter Tests (AED 250 to 300), Extracurricular Activities (AED 300 to 500), Medical (AED 100 to 150), School Trips (AED 150 to 300), Costumes for school events (AED 150 to 200), Interschool Competitions (AED 250 to 300), KG Graduation (AED 125 to 150), School ID Card (AED 20 to 25), and School Photographs (AED 20 to 70).

Fees for New Students include Application Fees of AED 500 ((Assessment fees included), and offer of a place, an Enrolment Fee of up to 10% of the tuition fees - non refundable and deductible from the 1st term fees.

Re-enrollment fees for Existing Students are up to 5% of the tuition fees or AED 500 (whichever is higher), non refundable and deductible from the 1st term fees.

The school also offers a sibling discount scheme  of 10 % for the first sibling, 20 % for the second and 30% for the third.  School Employees receive a 50 % discount on enrolment of their child(ren).
