The DEWA Nursery is located at its Headquarters, in Umm Hurair, near Wafi City. For government employees fees are around 500 AED per month, making it considerably more affordable than private sector options.
In 2006, a UAE Cabinet decision required all government departments with more than 50 female employees, or a female staff with more than 20 children below the age of four combined, to open such a centre on its premises. The first to open was the Dubai Customs and Day Care Nursery in 2009, closely followed by the DEWA nursery. In total around 20 nurseries had either opened, or were in the process of being set up by 2010, according to this report.
Around 161 government departments across the UAE expressed interest in opening a nursery for working mothers.
