What qualities and characteristics would you say define your school?

How does your school promote healthy lifestyles?

We have an organic supplier that supplies organic and healthy food. There is a full PE program and qualified PE teacher for the program.

Does the school have cafeteria facilities for the students?

Yes, the school is catered by the Organic Cafe, which will provide both hot and cold foods.

What is the starting and finishing time of your school day?

7.45am-3pm (There will be extra curricular activities after 3pm)

How do you feedback progress and attainment to students and parents?

Through written reports and at parent/teacher conferences. There is daily and weekly class communication between teacher and parents.

How often is the more formal feedback such as reports and parent/teacher meetings?

Formal written reports twice a year and 3 conferences per year.

In the early years and Grades 1 and 2, the homework will be driven by reading at home with mom and dad. Grades 1 and 2 will have some project driven homework but no drill homework.

How do you support gifted, able and talented students?

All learning at Clarion is differentiated to meet the needs of its students, and whatever level they are.

Does your school have particular expertise in dealing with a specific learning need such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, aspergers syndrome and so forth?

Parents are welcome in the school and we feel it is crucial for the parent community to be engaged. There are opportunities to participate in the Very Important Reader in the Book Café for Children, Moms and Dads at work program and other options.

Is there an opportunity for parental representation on your school Board of Governors?


Do you offer specific activities, events or information sessions for those parents new to the school and/or area?

We hold community events for our parent group and learning events. There are also 3 parent teacher meetings through the year and curriculum information meetings throughout the year.

The Bank Street model is very real life based. As we study the social study topics of inquiry the class will take many trips connected directly to the curriculum. For instance during the water study we will go to the creek and beach to test the water and look for ourselves how the water is flowing and its characteristics. We will visit the desalination plant and the water bottling plant, etc.
