British Rose Nursery Jumeirah, located in Umm Al Sheif, is the second member of the same group - the original nursery is located in Sharjah.

The story so far..

The team behind British Rose Nursery Jumeirah (and its sister branch in Sharjah) have been offering nursery education to children following the UK's Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, incorporating the nursery's own 'Curiosity Approach', providing each child with a well-rounded education.

Now operating for 30 years, with the first nursery opening in the UK in 1988 and the first in the UAE in 2001, this long-established family team is passionate about supporting the youngest children through their first introduction to education.  Mother and daughter Edie Rayson-Basha (Level 5 Cache qualified) and Cherie Basha (MA Early Childhood Education) are directly involved in all operations.

The nursery owner, Edie Basha say that "We strongly believe in the power of nature and a child's drive for curiosity which can be seen throughout our nursery from our setting to our activities. In 2001, I opened British Rose Nursery in the UAE. I wanted to bring my philosophy and vision of the early years to the region to provide children with outstanding education and care. After 20 years in the UAE I can say we have done just that! We are passionate about what we do and we have an amazing team which has helped make us what we are today".

Explaining the philosophy of the nursery further, Edie explains, "We view each child as competent and capable individuals with their own voice and rights which are heard and valued."

The nursery views curiosity as a fundamental aspect of childhood and this explains why the nursery's motto is "curiosity begins here". The curriculum follows a nature-based, eco-driven, child-led, curiosity approach with incorporation of Reggio Emilio philosophy

British Rose Nursery offers provision from babies of 5 months through to Foundation Stage One children aged 4.

What about the curriculum?

The educators at the nursery aim to extend each child's learning experiences, encouraging children to initiate, observe and investigate their theories and findings whilst being supported at every step. Each area of the nursery is carefully curated, designed to offer opportunities for investigation which spark curiosity in children incorporating the Reggio Emilio approach.

This is further supported by the EYFS framework focusing on each of the seven learning areas to help encourage each child to reach their full potential and promote strong, confident learners and members of society.

What about the environment and facilities?

The Nursery provides a safe, secure and engaging environment. The Baby unit is a homely, welcoming environment allowing babies to feel comfortable while in the care of its team.

A separate Toddler Room is dedicated to curious minds, quick legs, sticky fingers and lots of laughter. Children are provided with natural open-ended materials, with opportunities to choose, be heard and to be encouraged towards independence.

Pre-K classrooms have been created for two and a half to three year olds and designed to keep Busy hands and busy minds occupied through creative spaces and open play. The resources are designed to enhance learning and development as children continue their learning journey.

The Foundation Stage 1 space has been created for 3 to 4 year olds.  A homely warm and welcoming environment supports children through the transition from FS1 into 'big school.'  Children develop the skills and social competence to adapt once in school, having been nurtured within the smaller, more personal nursery environment.

The classroom spaces themselves provide a safe and secure learning environment for each child. Designated areas are created to learn mathematics, literacy, science, sensory all through fun and engaging play! Children also have the option to go to their classroom's quiet area to read a book, listen to a story, sit with friends, have some "me" time or simply reflect on their day.

The team at British Rose Nursery is passionate about mindfulness and yoga which is an included programme within the purpose-built studio at the nursery at no additional charge.  The gardening programme is also free as children learn to embrace nature and taking care of plants as a part of the nursery's ideology.  The nursery team believes these are mindful activities that promote calmness, empathy and spark curiosity which is a fundamental element of British Rose Nursery. Ballet, Taekwondo and gymnastics are charged to parents at a low fee as these are sourced staff from outside.

The Music and Movement Room is a large dedicated space allowing children the freedom to dance and express themselves as well as a space for yoga and gym play, building upon their motor skills.  A Splash Zone allows children to cool off on a warm Dubai day enabling them to play with friends, jump around and get wet.

The outdoor areas of the nursery are an extension of the classroom, and incorporate four separate gardens providing plenty of space and opportunities to explore and play, including a curiosity garden with climbing frames, a large sand play area, bike area and the splash zone area.

The Buzz

WhichSchoolAdvisor.com asked the team at British Rose Nursery what made it so special.

They told us "British Rose Nursery is family owned and operated. Every day you will find the owners inside the nursery! This personal connection we have makes BRN truly an extension of home. We feel when we open our doors to families we are welcoming them into our family, and our nursery has always been viewed as a second home to the owners (Edie and family). We value children’s rights at BRN and make a promise to parents their child will be listened to and valued and their voice always heard and respected".
