Shaped like a boat, and with views of the water from every classroom, the GEMS proposed Boathouse School Palm Jumeirah would be the development's first Primary school.

The Boathouse School would be the KG to primary school on Dubai's Palm Jumeirah. Conceived at the height of Dubai's building boom, if and when it will open however, is very unclear.

According to the architect's website the school will be a "premier private school" which will house 1700 students, and offer phases from pre-school through to sixth grade.

The building is designed into three learning zones and classrooms are arranged into two learning pods in a symbolic form of a ship.

Each classroom has a view of the water and is designed around a collaboration zone.

Given space is a premium on the site - this is reclaimed land, after all - the roof tops are used as outdoor athletic spaces.

No opening date has been given by GEMS, although given the up tick in building on the palm, including several tall towers, just in terms of a captive audience, its future looks both more, and less likely.

More likely because there will be more demand than ever. Less likely, because as land costs on the Palm rise, so a school looks less like a viable commercial proposition.
