Amity School Sharjah is a CBSE curriculum school that opened in April 2019. It is the third school in the UAE that is operated by not-for-profit Amity Education.

The story so far...

Amity School Sharjah, which opened in April 2019, is the third school to open in the UAE under the ownership of The Amity Education Group.  The first was Amity International School, Abu Dhabi (which is UK curriculum). This was followed by Amity School Dubai, which offers the CBSE curriculum and now Amity School Sharjah, which has followed the Dubai school in adopting for the most popular Indian curriculum. 

The group also runs the Amity University in Dubai, spread across 700,000 sq. ft. offering under graduate & post graduate programmes, as well as two Early Learning Centres - also located in Dubai.  The Amity Education Group is a Not for Profit Education Foundation. With 150, 000 students worldwide, it plans to expand to a further 25 countries.

The Sharjah school is led by Ms. Archana Sagar. Introducing the school, Ms. Sagar says, "As an educator, I am inspired by the success and evolution of every student. I am excited to share my passion, enthusiasm and experience to foster a distinguished educational approach through Amity Private School Sharjah. While high academic achievement is a priority, the school aims to create a community of well-rounded individuals who are compassionate and confident".

Head of Primary, Suja Udaikumar, joined the Amity group with more than 30 years of experience in the field of education, of which 26 years have been in the UAE. She has previously held facilitating and management positions in institutions including The Westminster School, Dubai and Delhi Private School, Sharjah.

Outlining the goals of the school, with its motto - LEARN, EXCEL AND SUCCEED - the school's informative website notes that "We believe in unlocking the endless potential that each and every child holds within, and our mission is to help them grow and persevere, becoming the leaders of tomorrow. We are committed to see that our students thrive in our accepting, loving and inclusive atmosphere, through individualized attention and support."

The school's Mission is "to provide a safe and healthy environment for balanced academic progress. We strive to develop knowledgeable, well informed communicators with a drive to become future leaders. All members of the school are collaborative with the parent community and multicultural society at large to provide our students an open-minded learning environment."

Its Vision sees each child involved in the curriculum "to become inquirers who are reflective, creative risk takers, growing up to become global citizens and leaders with a better understanding to cope with any hurdles they may encounter in their future endeavours".

The school will welcome its first cohort of Grade 11 students in April 2023, opening fully to Grade 12 in 2024 and graduating its first cohort of Grade 12 students in March 2025.

What about the curriculum?

Amity Private School, Sharjah aligns its educational practices with the objectives of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), following the CBSE curriculum from Grade 1. The major objectives include: to define adequate approaches to educational activities, develop norms for the implementation of these educational activities, analyse and monitor the quality of these educational activities.

The school states that its role is not just to teach, but to guide and prepare every child for success in every obstacle ahead. "Our programme is built within, but not limited to, the frameworks of the Indian CBSE curriculum and is designed to encourage innovation and develop unique experiences for all of our students, moulding them to rise to the challenges of the 21st Century. Our endeavour is to give them the freedom to be accepted in the top universities throughout the world, with the skills and knowledge we instil in them."

In 2017, the Global CBSE Topper was an Amity student, proof, according to the school, that our teaching methods inspire success.

The school's approach aims to provide the students of Amity School Sharjah with a child-centred, holistic education, "which aligns with appropriate psychological, pedagogical and social principles."

The school's focus for the CBSE curriculum is on pursuing excellence and leadership qualities in a balanced academic programme that nurtures intellectual, emotional, physical and social development.

The KG curriculum encourages students to wonder as they navigate through an activity-based learning framework.  Teachers foster the characteristics of effective early learning. The areas of learning - similar to and developed from UK-based Early Years Foundation Stage - include: Communication and language, Physical development, Personal, social and emotional development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the world, Expressive arts and design, and an additional area of Financial capability, laying financial foundation for the future.

Students learn by playing and exploring. Active learning takes place in a child-friendly, caring, stimulating and safe learning environment. Every child is encouraged to create and think critically in an activity based learning programme.

Primary school students are encouraged to be Inquirers - adopting the approach of the International Baccalaureate curriculum - while they approach learning through a trans-disciplinary framework.  The areas of learning are: Language and Literacy, Mathematics and numeracy, Science and Technology (STEAM), Information and communication technology, The Arts, The world around us, Physical health and personal development, Moral education, Mutual understanding (contributors to society and environment), Physical education, and Financial capability (learning to manage money and spend wisely). In addition, students study the Ministry of Education mandated subjects of Arabic and Islamic Studies. 

Middle School students are encourage to be Goal-Oriented learners and pioneers of tomorrow.  Students continue to the follow the areas of learning from the Primary school, but with additional topics incorporated including Learning for life, Environment and Human Society, Science and Technology (STEAM), Mutual understanding (contributors to society, economy, environment and leadership), and Financial capability (what influences you when it comes to spending money).  

Senior school students are encouraged to be enterprising Risk Takers. The areas of learning are:Language and Literacy, Mathematics and numeracy, The Arts, Learning for life and work, Environment and Human Society, Science, and Technologies (STEAM), Information and communication technology, Physical health and personal development, Moral education, Mutual understanding [contributors to society, economy, environment and leadership], Physical education, and Financial capability [learning about the importance of managing your own money]. Graduating Years (Grades 10,11,12) subjects and learning skills will be as offered by the CBSE syllabus.

Prior to the closure of all UAE schools as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic, Amity School Sharjah already offered an Online Learning Resource accessible through the school website. The Online Portal enables students to acquire information to enhance their learning experiences, no matter where they are. 

With the closure of the school, Amity School Sharjah launched its Distance Learning programme which operated from March to June 2020.  Each students’ curriculum included a mixture of pre-recorded classes and interactive online sessions with class and subject teachers. Teachers continued to reinforce all lessons by providing follow-up reading material and activities that helped students understand their subject matter better. Teachers used Microsoft Teams and other subject related resources to ensure that students were engaged and received appropriate learning experiences at home.

In the Distance Learning Evaluation carried out by Sharjah Private Education Authority, Amity School Sharjah achieved a rating of Developed - the highest rating available.

The school encourages student involvement in both pastoral and extra-curricular activities through a programme that is again closely aligned with practice in the International Baccalaureate progammes. 

CAS  - Creativity, Action and Service -. activities are challenges which students take up in an environment conducive to learning. Activities are planned and evaluated and goals met after goal setting.

Creativity activities are carried out outside normal curriculum and include activities such as theatre, music, dance, art, design, debate, thinking and project work. Action activities include sports, and physical activity. The school offers Basketball, Swimming, Karate, Skating, Horse Riding, Badminton, Cricket, Soccer/Football, Table Tennis, Athletics, and Tennis.  Service activities are designed to teach dignity and self-respect for others and are seen by the school as of paramount importance on the path to becoming leaders of tomorrow.

Themed based activities, co-curricular activities, project based work are all incorporated in the time table.  One more unusual activity encouraged by the school is Non-Competitive Sports.  These are designed to give students the opportunity to try a variety of athletic endeavours and develop their skills in a welcoming and motivating atmosphere. The programmes focus on individual development and growth, whilst cultivating the concepts of good sportsmanship and team play, providing students with an avenue to learn skills that can be used to navigate their daily lives. 

In addition to its academic accreditation with the CBSE, Amity School Sharjah also plans to attain membership under The Council of International Schools (CIS). CIS is a global non-profit membership organization that provides services to schools, higher education institutions and individuals. The core of these services ranges from School Accreditation, Educator Recruitment and Leadership Search to Higher Education Services that facilitate linkages between schools and colleges and universities. 

This is clear evidence that the school intends to ensure continuous professional development for its staff - a key requirement as education is changing so rapidly.

What about provision for students of Determination?

Amity School Sharjah strives to promote early identification and intervention of any difficulty a student may face, whereby teachers or parents can refer students to the SEND department at any time, where they are tested professionally by a consultant special educator and educational psychologist.

ASS caters to the individual need of students who experience difficulty in acquiring learning skills by framing individualised education programmes based on the identified needs of the student. This includes a range of carefully formulated interventions including speech therapy, occupational therapy, counselling and educational assessment.
All programmes are monitored through a system that includes extensive, in-depth and ongoing communication with parents and teachers.

SEND support does command additional fees.

What about the Facilities?

Located in the Muwaileh School Zone, the school is spread across 8 acres with modern buildings and state-of-the-art facilities. 

The  campus consists of: three sections, the Primary School (KG to Grade 5), Middle School (Grades 6 - 8), and Senior School (Grades 9 - 12).  The buildings are air-conditioned with modern, comfortable, suitably equipped and designed facilities for specific learning needs.

Highlights of the infrastructure include large multipurpose halls, resource rooms, a Library and Media Centre used for individual work by students as well as class activities, Language Labs, Math Labs, Science Labs and Computer Labs, and an Art and Design Studio.

Sports facilities include a temperature-controlled swimming pool, learners pool, covered sand pits, and a fully grassed outdoor playing field. Additional facilities include outdoor and indoor courts, sports fields, shaded basketball courts and provisions for riding classes.

The school Cafeteria maintains a high standard of healthy and reasonably priced lunches, flexible and in accordance with the needs of students at different levels.

The Buzz

WhichSchoolAdvisor.com has received little independent feedback about Amity School Sharjah, but given the reputations and our experience of the other schools within the Amity Education Group in the UAE, we would fully expect the school to be of a high standard.

What about the fees?

Fees at Amity School Sharjah range from AED 10,500 for KG, rising to AED 12,375 for Grades 1 and 2. Grade 9 and 10 fees are AED 17,250.  Fees may be paid in 10 monthly payments.  There is a registration fee of AED 500 per child.
