Al Worood Academy Private School Dubai closed at the end of the 2014-2015 academic year after successive follow on reports where the school was said to be failing by the KHDA.

Al Worood Academy Private School Dubai had followed a UK based curriculum but by the time of its closure was home to just 100 children occupying a building with a capacity of over 2000.

The school employed 20 teachers, with just over half of those with teaching qualifications. Only two had UK experience, and tellingly a key recommendation by Dubai's education regulator in the school's 2011/12 report was to "ensure that all teachers understand the English National Curriculum".

The school was ranked Unsatisfactory - a downgrade on its 2010/11 report. It had been subject to four follow on reports and the quality of education remained Unsatisfactory.

The school's single key strength was the behaviour of its students (2011/12 report).

In the most recent follow up report published in April 2014, the school was still found to be operating at an unsatisfactory level. There were however improvements in all 5 recommended areas, with two of them ranked as 'Acceptable'. In particular the report noted a significant improvement in the primary section although less-so in the foundation section. Clearly this was too little, too late.

At the same time as the Dubai school closed, so too did Al Worood Academy Private School Abu Dhabi, although for more tragic reasons. Abu Dhabi Al Worood school was closed by ADEC afteer the death of one of its students left locked in a school bus in October 2014.

ADEC first announced they had instructed the school to close, and then in February 2015 the Abu Dhabi courts also instructed the school to close as part of the court verdict.
