Al Ittihad School Mamzar is a co-educational K-12 private school located in Al Mamzar, Dubai serving a largely Emirati audience - four in 5 students come from local families. The school is well grounded in the community, opening in 1975.
After nine years of Acceptable ratings, Al Ittihad Private School Mamzar has achieved a Good rating in the 2018-19 KHDA inspection process. An abbreviated version of the inspection report can be found under the Inspection report tab. An update of this review will be completed once the full reports have been published.
The story so far...
The Al Mamzar branch has approximately 1800 students and caters to Arabic speaking students looking to follow a US curriculum, largely in English. Al Ittihad School Mamzar accepts both male and female students with separate sections of the school set aside for each gender. The school has 175 teachers, giving it one of the better teacher to student ratios.
The school is currently ranked Acceptable by the KHDA, but its report notes strong improvements being made across the board, with strong and diligent leadership, a vision for the school which seems to have taken root, good behaviour of students, the collection of data about performance, and the introduction of new teaching methodologies. Despite the high levels of praise for an Acceptably rated school, the KHDA has yet to improve the rating - a sign of it being too early for many of the new procedures to have bedded in. Lack of consistency seemed to be a theme running through the report.
The school has a great section on its Web site - "Why Choose Us?". WSA would like to see all schools add this, if only because it will help both the school, and potential parents, understand what the school believes to be its unique offering.
Al Ittihad notes that its education offers its students a chance to retain "their Islamic values, heritage, culture and traditions.... Students are provided solid grounding in Arabic, Islamic and Social Studies together with English, Math and Sciences. The curriculum is regularly reviewed to reflect the latest best practices in education.
"We not only challenge the mind – we nurture the soul. Our Islamic studies curriculum is rich with emphasis on the study of Quraan."
More prosaically Al Ittihad notes the strength of its faculty, its support services staff, its visual and performing arts and its "great facilities" (the school has a number of facilities including a gymnasium, two swimming pools and computer labs) and its strong partnership with parents. Parent feedback broadly supports the latter claim, although not for every parent - a minority of parents expressed dissatisfaction with performance and inclusion.
Tuition fees at al Mamzar are middling, ranging from 17,860 AED to 36,789 AED depending upon Grade level. There are additional charges for books and for transportation.
