Ajman Modern School Review
Ajman Modern School is a private school which currently has 735 students. It runs from Kindergarten to Grade 10 and 75 percent of the students are Emirati.
In the latest Ministry of Education report, of the six focus areas that account for the recommendation, one was evaluated as highly effective and the remaining five were evaluated as effective. This is a significant improvement from previous reports wherein Ajman Modern School had failed to gain accreditation.
The Highly Effective area of the school, as found by the report, is students' personal development. As the report notes, "students [have] positive attitudes to school life and [are] proud of their school. They behave well at all times during lessons, at break time and on the buses. Students respect each other and listen in assembly and lessons."
The positive attitude of the students towards school translates into a very high attendance rate of 97%. "Students said they like coming to school and they enjoy their lessons because they [are] interesting," finds the report.
Student attainment and progress, although not Highly Effective, was ranked as Effective by the Ministry. As they note in the report, "Most students made satisfactory progress in lessons and some made good progress." In order to improve student attainment and progress, the school needs "evidence that students are reaching relevant benchmarks." As the report notes, "the school [does] not enter students for any externally credited examinations. As a result it [is] more difficult for the school to demonstrate the progress which students [are] making when compared to students in other schools."
The classroom climate, while also rated as Effective, has areas for focused improvement as well. Teachers are successful in sharing learning objectives with the students and assessing student comprehension during lessons; however, the school can improve in the ways that it manages teaching time. As the report notes, "teachers did not always plan time efficiently. In the weaker lessons, students were not given enough time to think before they answered questions. Sometimes they did not have enough time to complete a task."
The school is ranked as having a Moderate capacity to meet report recommendations in the next 12 months.
School facilities include smart boards, a music room, science lab, and an activities stage. Fees start at 11,960 AED for KG and go up to 22,400 AED for Grade 11.
