What is the official name of your School?
Abu Dhabi Grammar School - Branch 1 (located in Mohammed Bin Zayed City)

What qualities and characteristics would you say define your school?
The school is a newly constructed campus with excellent facilities including a fully digital campus, fields and play areas, gymnasia, Olympic pool and fine arts areas.

The program of studies is that of Alberta, Canada with for which the school is accredited. Currently offering KG to Grade 9, the school will increase its offerings to include grades 10, 11 and 12 over the next three years.

The program provides students with traditional and blended learning alternatives with an emphasis on digital resources, an electronic library and access to courses not offered in traditional schools.

Learning is very much student directed with staff responding to learning needs of students. Students are expected to become independent learners, managing their own learning and using the school as a resource to achieve their educational goals.

Students with unique or specific educational goals find the program most enjoyable.

The school provides a comprehensive physical education program and health education that promotes healthy living. This is a required course for students in KG to Grade 10.

The Alberta curriculum promotes daily physical activity and the school adheres to that ideal. Students in KG to Grade 10 are required to participate in Health and Physical Education classes. Beyond this there are several opportunities for students to join optional physical activity activities in the pool, gym or classroom setting.

How do you promote healthy eating?
The snack and lunch provision at the school are highly regulated in terms of content with "sugar-added" and synthetic ingredients being banned. Contents of lunches brought from home are monitored to ensure compliance with food policies. Parents are provided with extensive guidelines outlining food items to be sent.

The school is a "no-hurting" place with a program of 3Rs (Rights, Responsibilities and Rules) defining appropriate and acceptable behaviour. Students who do not adhere to the policy are not allowed to continue study at the school. A leadership program based on 7 Habits of Effective Leaders provides students with a model for success without intervention.

Cell phones cannot be operational during class time and can only be used for emergency calls during breaks and then only under the supervision of staff.
