ABC Private School is located in Al Shamkha City in Abu Dhabi and currently enrols over 2000 students. Performance is currently rated Acceptable by ADEK, the Abu Dhabi education regulator.

ABC Private School has been rated Good for the first time in the 2022-23 ADEK inspection round. The report can be found under the Inspection Reports tab. An update to this review will follow..

The story so far...

ABC Private School opened in 2015 and is currently rated Acceptable based on the only inspection report currently available on the TAMM website which dates from 2018-19.  The inspection took place in January 2019.

At the time of the inspection had just over 1,600 students supported by 82 teachers and 5 teaching assistants.  With staff turnover running at 40% (double the UAE average), it would appear there have been some challenges in retaining staff.  Student numbers are now said to be over 2,000 taught by over 100 experienced teachers.

The school is led by Principal Ismat Ezzat Daou. He, together with the other members of the Senior leadership team, come from countries as diverse as Lebanon and Canada. Native English speakers are said to teach the National Curriculum of England and we have well qualified Arabic staff who teach Arabic, Islamic and UAE Social Studies.

Students come from mainly Arab countries, including Emiratis (28%), Egyptian (35%), Jordanian (13%) and Syrian (8%).

What about the curriculum?

ABC School teaches the UK curriculum and at the time of its inspection had opened its secondary phase, offering iGCSE, AS and A-level courses which were due to be examined for the first time in 2019 and 2020. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, examinations in 2020 and 2021 were postponed.

The school website mentions Extracurricilar [sic] activities on its website but no details are provided.

No information about exam results for 2022, when students sat examinations as previously, is available, but the school claims a 99% pass rate at both IGCSE and A Level but does not provide any details to support this information.

What the inspectors say

ABC School was rated Acceptable for the second time in 2019. Inspectors noted that the school had expanded significantly and that then new Principal had only recently joined.

Three of the key performance standards - for Students' Personal and Social Development and Innovation skills, The protection, care, guidance and support of students, and Leadership and Management, had improved to Good.  The curriculum had improved from Weak to Acceptable.  However, Teaching and assessment, and Student Achievement (which is fundamentally on improvements in the Curriculum and Teaching to improve) remained Acceptable.

In terms of the strengths of the school, the ADEK inspectors noted:

  • Improved attainment in Arabic as a first language in KG, Islamic Education in the middle phase and science in the middle and secondary phases.
  • Students’ behaviour and attitudes to learning.
  • Students’ attendance.
  • The safeguarding of students and the care they receive in school.
  • The school’s communication systems with parents.

The inspection team advised the school to make a range of improvements.

ABC School should:

  • Continue to raise achievement in all areas across the school by:
    - improving students’ skills in reading in Arabic and English
    - increasing the frequency that students can take a lead and be active in their own learning
    - providing more opportunities for students to be more innovative and creative in problem solving in their work
    - improving the opportunities students have to review and improve their own work
    - enabling students more frequent of learning technologies in lessons
    - ensuring students are exposed to a wider range of musical styles and opportunities to make their own music.

If you would like to read the full inspection report - and we strongly recommend that you do so in order to understand the reasons behind the ratings - you will find it here.

What about the facilities?

The school is located within a modern two storey building that offers a range of specialist labs including IT labs, online resources in classrooms and external play areas and sports space.
