The 20 shortlisted entries to the UAE's Young Musician of the Year Award. Note, entries in alphabetical order.

All of the entries we received were of a very high standard, and reducing to this list was very difficult. We congratulate all of those who have made it through. For those of you who did not, we will be running the competition again in 2017!

Serenade Espaneole, Ahmed Moataz Abdelgawad, Greenfield Community School

I Remember - Damien Rice (Cover), Shirin Asefi, Al Mizhar American Academy

Aisha, Kiss the Rain. My rendition of Yiruma's Kiss the Rain that got me to the last 5 finalist of Young Musician Competition in Al Yasmina. Aisha Azlan, Al Yasmina

Yiruma's River Flow. "This video is the actual video of Omar's rendition of Yiruma's River Flow into You. Omar's piece passed the rigorous selection from the audition stage to have only 15 made to semi finalist and only 5 made through to the finals. Omar won the Young Musician Competition. Enjoy the beautiful melodies."  Omar Raiyan Azlan, Al Yasmina

Think of Me. "This is one of my favorite songs inspired my great grandma." Zoe Barrett, Nord Anglia Dubai

Seven Nation Army. "This is our band, The Procrastinators. I study guitar, piano and drums at The Music Box. We got together three years ago to have fun and explore rock music. It's our chance to collectively share our passion. This is from a winter concert that we did." Rémi Beltram

Mozart-Turkish Rondo from Turkish March. "I have been playing piano since I was 5 years old. Here I am playing one of my favorite songs, which I also love to listen to." Yigit Efe Celi, American Community School of Abu Dhabi

Indian Pony Race. "I have been playing piano for four years. I enjoy doing it not only for helping me with my music skills but also it could help me with my academics." Yagiz ILGAZ CELIK, American Community School of Abu Dhabi

Y.EFE.CELIK. "I have been playing piano since I was 5 years old. Here I am playing one of my favorite songs, which I also love to listen to." Yigit Efe Celik, American Community School of Abu Dhabi

Czardas by V. Monti. "Favorite violin piece ever!", Leyth Elmani, Jumeirah College

Yet. "Not only is this piece a massive leap forward from my previous efforts but it also has a much deeper concept than anything else I've ever composed. The concept behind the piece is the exploration of the theme of grief. The 5 stages of grief portrayed in the piece are denial, rage, bargaining and trying to regain control, depression, and acceptance. Each section of the piece is musically composed so that it builds on the concept and symbolises that particular stage." Pedro, Al Yasmina

Time Lapse. (Transparent) "The music was composed by myself trying out some electronic house pop mixed with drums and guitar to create this musical piece called Time Lapse capturing the way how time is just running and people don't realize it until it is too late. Days and nights are feeling shorter and everything is going by too fast. I personally would love time to slow down a little so I could enjoy every last moment of it therefore inspiring me to create this track myself. (The video rendering process got clustered a little thus not having the outcome i expected it would and unfortunately due to time reasons :D, I had to upload it as is.) Thank You for listening and I hope you enjoy this." Abdul Haseeb, The British International School, Abu Dhabi

Boulevard Of Broken Dreams. "Our submission is the end product of an ideology that visual creativity and aesthetic can bring out the true motives and message of a song. Sound and visuals go hand in hand with each other in the sense that they are both appreciated by modern media and that they are both infinite. We wanted to take a popular rock song with raw emotion and not only cover it, but present it in such a way that the final product is both auditorily impressive and visually inspiring." Dimitris Kamaritis, The English College

Salt&Sugar. "This piece was composed by me and my friend Anshul, We wrote and produced this song together it's about how people aren't always what they seem. Hence the title Salt and Sugar They look alike but one is salty and one is sweet."
Mariam Mohamed, Raha International

Allegro 2. "Mikhail plays F. Seitz "Third Pupil's Concerto"", Mikhail Potvar, Greenfield Community School

Avant De Quitter Ces Lieux - Gounod. "I'm an aspiring opera singer! This is me singing an aria called 'Avant De Quitter Ces Lieux' by Gounod". Zahid Siddiqui, Dubai College

Piano Player. Shakhenba Waikhom, Al Mushrif Primary School

Someone Better. "This is an original song of mine called, "Someone Better" that I wrote and produced. I love to write songs and upload frequently on my YouTube channel Kiara 24. I've been doing classical singing lessons since I was seven and I am doing my Grade 7 ABRSM singing exam in May. I've been singing since I was two years old and don't plan on stopping any time soon!" Kiara Whittle, Dubai College

If I Aint Got You. "I will be doing a cover of If I Ain't Got You by Alicia Keys; I will be singing while playing the piano." Nouelle Shama Zamora, HCT Academy for Girls

Valse Brillante in F major. Xiaolin Zhang, Horizon School, Dubai
