We are officially counting down to the Young Musician of the Year! After three successful years of the WhichSchoolAdvisor.com Young Musician of the Year, the 2019 competition promises to be bigger and better, with a new category, new venue, and a new judge.

WhichSchoolAdvisor.com is inviting all UAE school students with a passion for music to join in, upload a short video to the competition website and showcase just what they can do. The competition accepts entries from all musical genres, voice and instruments, individuals, ensembles and bands.

Entrants can perform a piece of their choice, but the video should be no more than three minutes and 20 seconds in length.

As well as the Young Musician of the Year and People’s Choice, online vote, this year the competition includes the new “Rising Star Award”, aimed at younger students, those who haven’t had many years of practice, but who the judges feel show incredible promise and are the Young Musicians of the future.

Joining the judging panel alongside Managing Director of Soul Agency, Adam Long, session violinist, Anna Pym and Co-Founder of WSA, James Mullan, will be Rivaan Mager, Music Coordinator at Canadian University Dubai and founder of the Canadian University Dubai EnSENble choir, formerly known as Dubai EnSENble Choir, the UAE’s first choir for the Determined Ones, who will perform at the Finalists Concert alongside the Young Musicians.

Commenting on joining the judges Rivaan said:

“What an honour and a pleasure it is to be invited to be part of this exciting event. The phenomenal dedication that these young musicians show for their craft and how they foster their talent is an inspiration for us all. I am so excited to meet them, hear their musical journeys and of course experience their performances.”

We are delighted to once again have singer songwriter and founder of Go Play the World Abbo Abbodandolo, as mentor for the competition, Abbo will offer a Performance Masterclass to the 10 Finalists, something our previous finalists have found invaluable.

The finalists concert will this year be held on Saturday 9th November 2019 in the iconic Theatre by QE2, on board the famous liner in Mina Raschid, WSA are delighted to embark on a new partnership with the venue, which will see our finalists perform on the same ship that hosted music legend David Bowie and rock band The Cure.
