The inaugural DIFF young animators award was presented last night to Shahin Ben Salah from Nord Anglia International School; Kamalesh Sriram from JSS International School; and Max Makdisi from Greenfield Community School for PLAN B (We were meant to go to the moon but nooooo....).
The energetic one-minute animation adventure was premiered ahead of DIFF’s Children's Gala during the Dubai Film Festival (DIFF).
Launched by DIFF, Taaleem and The Animation Chamber, the initiative gave young people the chance to explore the world of movie animation via a three-day stop-motion workshop during Animate Dubai the first international animation festival organised by The Animation Chamber at Dubai Design District (d3).
In total, 18 participants between the ages of 10 and 17 were shortlisted to learn about all aspects of animation from storyboarding and scriptwriting to filming techniques, sound design and editing. The students created six animated videos which were then reviewed by the committee and the winning animation video given a World Premiere last night at DIFF 2015.
Commenting on the new initiative, Managing Director of the Dubai International Film Festival, Shivani Pandya, said, “the inception of the Young Animators Award is exciting for DIFF and one that we hope will capture the boundless imagination of young filmmakers.”
