Breaking: The Sharjah Private Education Authority, the SPEA, has announced that distance learning will be implemented for the first two weeks of the 2020-2021 academic year.

The private education authority used social media to make its announcement. Its statement simply read:

The Local Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority of Sharjah and the Sharjah Private Education Authority have announced distance learning mode for the first two weeks of the 2020-2021 academic year in all Sharjah private schools.

SPEA added the measure was being put in place to "ensure health and safety of the students, teachers and educational staff... The situation is being continuously monitored and we will keep sharing the updates."

The announcement was made at 5:23 pm on Tuesday 25th August.

Earlier SPEA had made notices Sharjah was forging ahead with school reopening. On August 20th, the education authority had announced that there were "10 days to go before schools would reopen", and that testing for all teachers had already started. "We're in this together to restart strong", it said in an Instagram post.
