School fees in Sharjah to rise by up to 5%

Sharjah's education regulator, The Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA), has followed Dubai's KHDA in announcing fees will be allowed to rise next year, and by the look of things, at a faster rate than in its neighbouring emirate. 

According to the SPEA, a tuition fee increase of up to 5 per cent has been approved for its schools for the 2023-24 academic year.

The Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA), said that the move is "in response to the private sector's needs to enhance resources and work requirements".

SPEA is set to publish its first set of inspection reports next month - although most schools will already know their rating. According to the authority schools with a rating below 'Acceptable' will not be eligible to increase their fees.

Last week, Dubai announced schools could raise their fees by 3% in the next academic year so long as they maintained their inspection rating. Schools that improved their rating will be able to raise the fee by between 1.5 and 2 times the ECI (the rate of inflation affecting schools). The ECI has not yet been revealed by Dubai's Statistics Office.
