Speaking to our sister site, SchoolsCompared.com, Principal Zara Harrington had this ambitious message for the children of Safa British School;
“To all our little ones…
In this, your school, you will discover the confidence to explore the strength of your imagination and, sometimes, even the power to overwhelm. You will come to enjoy the surprise of inspirational achievement and the experience of sharing it together.
You will learn to expect standards of yourself you didn’t think you could reach. Everyone will expect the best from everyone else. You will understand more the uniqueness of you and each person’s special place in our community and the wider world.
When the time comes for you to leave, our aim is that you will take with you the memory of a remarkable journey – and a determination to go on to be the very best that you can be. Above all, Safa British School will unlock all your potential to “dream big” – and give you the tools to make those dreams happen.”
The most significant change for the school will be the addition of a secondary phase, making Safa British School an ‘all-through’ school from FS1 to Year 13. Older children will be able to pursue A Levels and/or a vocational BTEC option.
Despite the addition of the secondary phase, the school will remain on the smaller side (by Dubai standards) with a maximum of 1400 students, hopefully retaining the homely and welcoming feel for which the school is known.
The architecture of the new buildings includes a number of natural elements, including a stream, organic farm and space for the chickens and other school pets, which are hugely popular with the current school students.
Eventually, the school hopes to achieve UK Forest school accreditation in order to underscore a commitment to outdoor learning and environmental awareness. Safa British School is already home to an award winning recycling facility.
Academic life will be further complemented by extensive new sporting facilities, including a cleverly designed indoor/outdoor pool (which will be shaded by the indoor sports hall, built above), football pitches, basketball courts as well as rooftop courts for basketball, netball and more.
In a time when most new schools are appearing in the newer areas of Dubai, it is refreshing to see a well thought of, true ‘community’ school like Safa British School retain its commitment to the community it has served for many years.
We will continue to update WhichSchoolAdvisor.com with further details as the build of the new school progresses.
