Although Newlands School was late to to find a principal, thanks to its highly-affordable fees, facilities and commitment to class sizes the school has attracted new students at a clip that has impressed many.
Not yet a month old and the school now has a total of 267 students, and principal Jane Whitby says the school is "still seeing a steady flow of three to four families coming for tours each week".
The school had planned to launch with one form per year group. However Newlands now offers two forms for each year in Key Stage 1, while Years 3 and 4 are also currently in the process of expanding to two forms.
On our visit we found classrooms well equipped and colourful with a maximum capacity of 25 students.
The ICT and music rooms rooms are now complete. Children will learn recorder, guitar and keyboard this year with a chior set to launch this month too.
Also fully functioning are the various outdoor play areas, sports-hall, an outdoor swimming pool and canteen serving healthy food options by caterer Slices.
A new addition to the site, an outdoor swimming pool is now ready for some serious splashing.
Whitby is keen the school is perceived as a community school servicing the local Mirdif and Al Warqa areas. As such, she has established an Early Morning Club, which allows working parents to drop their children off at the school at 6.45am.
The 20 new Newlands teachers have arrived from all over the world and are working with the class co-teachers, who, Whitby clarifies, "are not classroom assistants," "they're co-teachers being trained to actually impact learning."
Should you be interested in finding out more about Newlands, the school does have an informative web site. Keep tabs on our Newlands School review page for the latest information - including admissions and availability updates.
