GEMS New Our Own Private School opened in Al Juwaizah in April 2018, offering "state of the art" facilities to its students. GEMS says the merger will now bring these "numerous opportunities" to students from OOEHS Sharjah, Boys, and "expand [their] choice of elective subjects and extra-curricular activities".
The merged school will take the name of the more established Our Own English High School, Boys - but loses the reference to Sharjah. The merged school will also take the fees of Our Own English High School Sharjah Boys according to GEMS Education. That means the fees for New Our Own Private High School students will decrease to align with current fees at Our Own English High School Sharjah Boys.
The new campus will offer its relocated students "larger classrooms, superior games facilities and outdoor play areas, as well as a high-quality multi-purpose hall, canteen, dining space, library, laboratories, prayer rooms, conference facilities, and other features". It is a purpose-built campus with more than 3,000 sqm of additional space to improve the learning experience of all students.
Losing out in the merger will be current female students. The newly merged school will be coeducational until Grade 4. Any female students currently at NOOPHS in Grade 5 and beyond will be offered places at other GEMS Education schools.
Mr Srivalsan Murugan, Principal and CEO of Our Own English High School Sharjah, Boys, who will remain in the leadership at the new campus, said:
“We strongly believe that this move will significantly benefit our students, enabling us to keep them enthused, engaged, and inspired by offering a well-equipped learning environment that is enhanced with state-of-the-art facilities and a range of high-tech learning tools and educational resources. We appreciate the support received from our parent community, and look forward to continuing to deliver the highest quality education to all learners.”
GEMS Education says it has taken a number of steps to minimise any disruption caused by the move including a school bus services "as per existing arrangements" and providing full assistance to families who do not wish to relocate or for whom the merger is disagreeable.
Al Juwaizah is situated 15 kilometres from Sharjah International Airport and 10 kilometres from Sharjah National Park.
Following the move, the faculty of the school will be made up of teachers from both Our Own English High School Sharjah, Boys and GEMS New Our Own Private High School, Sharjah.
