An independent school based in the north east of England has announced plans to open its first overseas branch in Dubai.
Durham School has been operating for over 600 years and was set to be opening in an as yet undisclosed location in September 2015. The date has since been rescheduled for September 2017.
The school will initially cater for pupils aged from 3 to 12 but will expand over the following years to include around 2,000 pupils up to the age of 18.
The school has partnered with 'a leading Dubai businessman' on the venture and the news was released via a letter sent to parents last week by the school's chairman of governors. It will be a fee-paying day school for boys and girls, teaching the UK curriculum, with pupils working towards International GCSEs and the International Baccalaureate.
The Dubai school will share Durham’s name, logo, house system and uniform and former pupils will officially be Old Dunelmians.
