A 17 year old male Emirati student has tested positive for covid19.  The UAE Ministry of Health confirmed the new case on Thursday 5th March.

The student is not showing any symptoms and is currently said to be stable.  He is receiving medical care and has been isolated as a precautionary measure.

The Emirati is the second school student who has tested positive for the virus.  On Thursday, The Indian High School broke for Spring break one day early  after a female student tested positive for Covid-19.

The school the Emirati student attends, which has not been named, will be deep cleaned and sterilised and everyone who may have come into contact with the student will be tested for Covid-19.

The news comes as schools across the UAE close for a four week period and Emiratis and residents were discouraged from overseas travel.  Both the closures and travel guidance are measures designed to contain the spread of Covid-19.

The Ministry of Education has also warned that all school staff and students who intend to travel during the school closures may face a 14 day quarantine at home on their return.
