Emirates to Stop Most Flights from March 25

Emirates Airways announced on Sunday March 22nd that it will temporarily suspend passenger operations by March 25. The move comes as part of an attempt to safeguard the future of the airline and the jobs of its staff. Subsequently, Emirates updated their information to include a number of destinations to which flights will continue.

Dubai headquartered Emirates Group announced by Twitter on March 22 that it will temporarily suspend passenger operations by March 25.

Today we made the decision to temporarily suspend all passenger flights by 25 March 2020. SkyCargo operations will continue. This painful but pragmatic move will help Emirates Group preserve business viability and secure jobs worldwide, avoiding cuts.

The airline said it will retain cargo operations. Dnata announced it has significantly reduced operations, including temporary closure of operations at some international locations where demand is low.

Later in the day,  HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Group said "Having received requests from governments and customers to support the repatriation of travellers, Emirates will continue to operate passenger and cargo flights to the following countries until further notice, as long as borders remain open, and there is demand: the UK, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Australia, South Africa, USA, and Canada. The situation remains dynamic, and travellers can check flight status on emirates.com."

The airline says it is implementing basic salary reductions for the majority of its employees for three months, but will not cut jobs.
