The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has shared a circular with Dubai schools regarding operational requirements for Ramadan 2023.

The circular states that school must provide a maximum of five hours of instruction time during the holy month, and that schools must end instruction on Fridays by 12:00 noon in order to accommodate Friday prayer.

Schools have flexibility to decide the exact start and end time within these requirements. Some schools may choose to delay their start time, while others will have their usual early start with an earlier end to the day.

Schools have been directed to ensure that fasting students are exempt from participating in P.E. classes if requested, and that homework and revision expectations are lowered during this time.

In the UAE this year, Ramadan is expected to start on Thursday 23rd March, ending on Friday 21st April, according to the International Astronomical Centre.

Schools will only be open for eight days during Ramadan this year, due to schools closing for spring break  from Monday 27th March – Friday 7th April.
