Management at DPS Academy have notified parents planning to leave the school this month, that refunds will be available.

In a letter dated, 26th October, management announced that provision will be made for any students who have applied for transfer certificates on or before the 25th October, including a monetary refund for the months of November/December and any fees paid towards the third term.

The offer also included most additional costs including: transport, STEM lab fees and books.

Speaking to UAE daily newspaper, the Khaleej Times, school proprietor Dinesh Kothari confirmed that approximately 120 children planning to leave the DPS Academy by the end of October 2016 will receive refunds of between Dhs 3,000 and Dhs 6,000.

He also confirmed leaving certificates for the children would be completed by the end of October.

According to Gulf News around 300 students at DPS Academy have accepted the original offer made by DPS Academy management to transfer to sister-school, DPS- Sharjah.

Kothari told the publication, the 5,600 student DPS-Sharjah School would be developing its campus further to accommodate the influx of new students from Dubai.

“We have 450 seats in kindergarten at our Sharjah branch but received 950 applications in a matter of two hours after the registrations were opened. So we have decided to have this new campus which can accommodate up to 1,200 students."

"This campus, located at the existing Sharjah campus, will be a feeder school to accommodate the rush. Everything else in terms of teachers, teaching the curriculum will continue to be CBSE followed by both the Dubai and Sharjah schools," said Kothari. "

He went on to say, "we have always defended the interests of our students and are acting in their interests. We had to decide to close this DIAC campus as we were running in losses but within 48 hours we offered to accommodate all students from this campus in the other campuses even if it meant expanding those schools.”

To date, there has been no reporting on students who have either applied to, or been accepted into sister-school DPS- Jebel Ali, rated Very Good by the KHDA.

Kothari did mention that external provision has now been made for those wishing to continue with the CISCE curriculum, and DPS Academy has entered into an agreement with CISCE curriculum JSS International School, based in Al Barsha.

“We have entered into a written agreement with JSS (I) that they will accommodate all students from this school who wish to continue in the ICSE curriculum and the transition will be very smooth following this agreement,” he said.
